CVWD is proud to conclude its second annual Water Ranger Summer Camp, where more than 200 students participated in two separate three-day camps filled with hands-on learning, STEM exploration, and water education.

Throughout the week, campers built water filtration systems, learned about water-wise gardening, planted succulents to take home, toured the Lloyd W. Michael Water Treatment Plant, and participated in engaging activities designed to inspire curiosity and environmental stewardship.

A special thank you to our incredible partners - Alta Loma School District, Inland Empire Utilities Agency (IEUA), and the City of Rancho Cucamonga for helping make this program such a success. Together, we're inspiring the next generation of water stewards and making learning about water fun!

This program would not be possible without the generous grant funding provided by San Bernardino County Supervisor Jesse Armendarez, whose support helps make these educational opportunities available to students throughout our community.

We can't wait to welcome our future Water Rangers back next summer! 💙💧

Throwback Thursday🔙

Pictured in the 1950s are District Engineer John Merriam and Zanjero Lew Gilbert inspecting the Day Canyon Tunnel north of Alta Loma. As a Zanjero, Lew played a vital role in maintaining the tunnels and canals that delivered water to local farms and growing communities.💦

During Smart Irrigation Month, we’re reminded that while irrigation technology has evolved from hand-operated gates and irrigation ditches to smart controllers and drip systems, the goal remains the same: delivering the right amount of water, at the right time, to where it’s needed most.💧

The work of early water professionals like Lew Gilbert helped build the foundation for the reliable water delivery systems we depend on today.💯

Rancho Cucamonga's sandy, well-draining soils are great for healthy roots, but they also mean your landscape can dry out faster during the summer heat.

This week's water-wise tip:

✅ Water deeply and less often to encourage roots to grow deeper.

✅ Add 2–3 inches of mulch to help keep the soil cool and reduce moisture loss.
✅ Choose drought-tolerant or California native plants that thrive in our local climate and well-draining soils.

We are proud to share that CVWD’s Randy Stewart was selected to present at the American Water Works Association (AWWA) Annual Conference & Exposition (ACE26) in Washington, D.C., one of the water industry’s premier national conferences.

Randy contributed to the specialized workshop, Beyond Control: Emergency Preparedness with and for SCADA Systems, where he shared insights on operational resilience, cybersecurity, emergency preparedness, and strategies for maintaining critical water operations during system disruptions.

His participation reflects both his technical expertise and CVWD’s leadership in automation, innovation, and the protection of critical water infrastructure. By sharing real-world experiences and best practices with water professionals from across the nation, CVWD continues to help advance industry knowledge while strengthening the reliability and resilience of water systems.
