Thank you to all the family members and friends who attended Family Night at the Frederick County Fire & Rescue Academy last Friday! ♥

It was wonderful to see our three JCESA members, who are currently attending the recruit school, connect with their classmates, instructors, and families. We're very proud to have these three representing Jefferson County and JCESA as they continue their training and development.

Family plays such an important role in a recruit’s journey, and it was wonderful to see everyone come together for an evening filled with connection, learning, and great company.

We're proud of our staff and grateful to the Frederick County Fire and Rescue Academy for including JCESA in this instrumental opportunity. We are excited to see what these three bring back when they finish the program!🚑💪

The Jefferson County Emergency Services Agency is proud to announce the Whole Blood Program set to go live Tuesday, August 18, 2026. 💉

The program, developed through a collaborative partnership between JCESA, Inova Blood Donor Services, the West Virginia Office of Emergency Medical Services, and Jefferson County EMS Medical Director Dr. Marney Treese, provides EMS professionals with potentially life-saving blood products to treat patients experiencing severe blood loss or hemorrhagic shock.

For patients experiencing catastrophic blood loss, every minute counts. Having blood available on an EMS unit will help give the patient those precious minutes necessary to survive until a transfusion can be done at the hospital.

JCESA’s mission is to provide the best possible care to Jefferson County residents, wherever they are, whenever they need it. The Whole Blood Program will help achieve this mission and save the lives of our residents. 👏🚑

On Wednesday, August 12, Chief Gorham of the JCESA met with Senator Patricia Rucker and State Fire Marshal Ken Tryee at the State Capitol in Charleston.

During the meeting, Chief Gorham discussed potential regulatory changes that could help modernize Jefferson County’s emergency services while continuing to work hand-in-hand with our local volunteer fire companies.

These conversations are an important part of strengthening our emergency response system and ensuring we continue to provide the best possible service to the Jefferson County Community. 🚒 🤝

We would like to extend a big thank you to the Jefferson High School coaching and athletic staff, Jefferson County Emergency Communications Center, WVU East Trauma Services, WVU East Education Simulation Training, and all of the school personnel who helped make yesterday evening’s emergency response exercise a success!

Exercises like this give us the opportunity to learn, practice, and improve our response to emergencies while ensuring our students, athletes, staff, and spectators can enjoy events safely.

We learned a lot and truly appreciate everyone who took the time to participate and help make Jefferson County a safer community. 🏫 👏

🚨Emergency Response Exercise at Jefferson High School Tonight

The Jefferson County Emergency Services Agency (JCESA), in partnership with Jefferson High School coaching and athletic staff, Jefferson County Emergency Communications Center, and school personnel, will conduct a small-scale emergency response exercise today, Tuesday, August 11, at 6 PM at the Jefferson High School Sports Field.

The exercise is designed to help emergency responders and school staff practice coordinated emergency response procedures involving student-athletes, band members, coaches, and spectators during a game or large event.

Please do not be alarmed if you see emergency personnel or activity at the school. This is a planned exercise.

The exercise will be limited to Jefferson High School and will not affect other schools in Jefferson County. JCESA will remain available to respond to actual emergencies throughout the exercise.

An EMT spends 150 hours in the classroom and field to learn how to do their job. An EMT-Advanced has 350 hours in classroom and field. A paramedic has between 1,200 and 1,500 hours of classwork and field rotation time. In Jefferson County, we are also beholden to the citizens to continue with our education and challenging ourselves to be the best for the community. Jefferson County providers are also learning how to use the ventilator, some paramedics are trained how to RSI a patient (sedate and paralyze patients for intubation), giving blood via an IV, and even point of care ultrasound. And that’s just for the providers.
For the community, JCESA provides CPR classes, Stop the Bleed, EMT Basic classes, and Babysitter/First Aid classes. Education never stops with Jefferson County. We must keep learning due to evolvement of emergency medicine and to always provide the best care for our citizens. Please reach out to get more information on the upcoming classes at JCESA!

JCESA is proud to have a PEER support team on standby every shift for the providers in the county. Peer support allows providers with experience to be able to be the shoulder for those that need a helping hand whether due to a call the provider was on or involved in. Mental health always is at the forefront of our minds when we think about our providers. Our team rises above for the citizens and the peer support team rises above for the providers. The peer support team is involved in several trainings and constantly stay up to date on changing education within the mental health sphere.
