🎓 CONGRATULATIONS, FIREFIGHTER PARAMEDIC MACKENZIE HORVATH! 🚒

We’re proud to announce that Mackenzie Horvath has officially graduated from fire school!

Mackenzie joined the Riverview Fire Department as a full-time paramedic in January. While working her regular shifts as a paramedic, she also put in the time and hard work to complete fire school.

Now, she is officially a firefighter paramedic with the Riverview Fire Department! 👩‍🚒🚑

We’re excited to see her continue to grow and are proud to have her on our team. Congratulations, Mackenzie! We’re looking forward to everything you’ll accomplish in your career with us.

⚠️ TRAFFIC ADVISORY AND TEMPORARY BUILDING CLOSURE – FRIDAY, JULY 24 ⚠️
There will be an emergency vehicle procession on Friday, July 24, at 9 AM to honor Sergeant Adam J. Amrozi. The procession will begin at Martenson Funeral Home in Allen Park, then proceed north on Allen Road to Southfield, and east to Fort Park, passing by the Lincoln Park Fire Department. It will continue south on Fort Park, east on Champaign to Fort Street, and then south on Fort Street to West Road, concluding back at Martenson Funeral Home in Trenton.

City buildings will be closed to the public tomorrow from 9 AM to 9:45 AM to allow staff and elected officials to attend the procession. Members of the community who wish to pay their respects are welcome to observe the procession from this area.

Please be aware that, while we are unsure of the exact number of emergency vehicles participating, this procession is exclusively for emergency vehicles. Expect temporary road closures and potential traffic delays during this time. If possible, please consider alternative routes.

Visitation for those wishing to pay their respects will be held on Friday, July 24, from 12 PM to 7 PM at Martenson Family of Funeral Homes, located at 3200 West Rd, Trenton, MI 48183. A Firefighter and Family Sharing Service will begin at 7 PM.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to Adam’s family, friends, and loved ones. Please keep them and our fire department in your thoughts and prayers as we mourn this significant loss.

Thank you for your patience, understanding, and support as we come together to honor Sergeant Amrozi and show our respect for a member of our public safety family.

🔥 Air Quality Alert – Canadian Wildfire Smoke 🔥

Residents may notice hazy skies and the smell of smoke throughout the area as wildfire smoke from Canada continues to impact air quality across Michigan.

This smoke can pose health risks, especially for children, older adults, pregnant individuals, and those with heart or lung conditions such as asthma or COPD.

To help protect yourself and your family:

• Limit prolonged outdoor activities, especially strenuous exercise.
• Keep windows and doors closed when possible.
• Run air conditioning on recirculate mode if available.
• Consider using an air purifier indoors.
• If you must spend extended periods outdoors, a well-fitted N95 mask may help reduce smoke exposure.

Symptoms from smoke exposure may include eye irritation, coughing, sore throat, shortness of breath, or worsening asthma symptoms.

Please be aware that the smoky conditions and haze being observed are related to the Canadian wildfires and are not indicative of an emergency within our community.

📞 PHONES DOWN 📞

UPDATE: sounds like our power will be out approximately until Monday so more than likely no phones until Monday as always call 911 if you have an emergency!

Due to storm damage, the Riverview Fire Department has lost power and is currently operating on generator power. As a result, our non-emergency phone lines are temporarily out of service.

🚨 If you have an emergency, call 911. Emergency calls are still being received and dispatched without interruption.

For non-emergency matters, we appreciate your patience while crews work to restore power and phone service. We will provide an update as soon as our phone lines are back in service.

Thank you for your understanding, and please use caution while traveling if you encounter downed trees, power lines, or other storm-related hazards.

🇺🇸 Happy Fourth of July from the Riverview Firefighters!

Today, we proudly celebrate 250 years of American independence and honor the courage, sacrifice, and spirit that have shaped our nation since 1776. As we gather with family, friends, and neighbors, we hope everyone has a safe, enjoyable, and memorable Independence Day.

As you celebrate, please remember a few important safety tips:
🎆 Leave fireworks to the professionals whenever possible. If you choose to use legal consumer fireworks, follow all local laws, keep a bucket of water or hose nearby, and never allow children to handle fireworks.
🔥 Keep grills well away from homes, decks, and anything that can catch fire.
🚗 If you’re traveling, buckle up, drive sober, and stay alert for increased traffic and pedestrians.
💧 Stay hydrated, take breaks from the heat, and check on your neighbors, especially older adults and those who may need assistance.

While you celebrate this historic milestone, the Riverview firefighters will continue serving our community 24 hours a day, ready to respond whenever we’re needed.

☀️ Extreme Heat Alert: Stay Safe, Riverview! ☀️

Michigan is experiencing an extreme heat wave, and the high temperatures can create serious health risks for everyone — especially young children, older adults, people with medical conditions, and those working or exercising outdoors.

🔥 Heat-related emergencies can happen quickly. Know the warning signs:
• Heavy sweating
• Dizziness or weakness
• Nausea or headache
• Confusion or altered mental status
• Hot, dry skin or loss of consciousness

🚒 Help prevent heat illness:
✅ Drink plenty of water — don’t wait until you’re thirsty
✅ Limit outdoor activity during the hottest parts of the day
✅ Take frequent breaks in the shade or air conditioning
✅ Wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing
✅ Never leave children, pets, or anyone unattended in a vehicle — temperatures can become deadly within minutes
✅ Check on neighbors, friends, and family who may need extra help

If you or someone around you shows signs of heat stroke, call 911 immediately. Heat stroke is a medical emergency.

🚒🔥 Today we had the pleasure of welcoming students from Forest Elementary to the Riverview Fire Department for a fire safety visit!

The students got to meet our firefighters, see the fire trucks up close, and learn important fire safety tips like what to do if they see smoke, how to call 911, and why smoke alarms are so important.

We love having the opportunity to connect with our community and help teach our youngest residents how to stay safe at home and at school.

A big thank you to the students, teachers, and staff from Forest Elementary for visiting us today—we hope everyone had as much fun as we did!
