“After you have this at home, if the date has passed, you can still eat this. If you don’t want to eat it, you can very likely, depending on the product and if it’s perishable or not, you can donate it. So, this is going to be very helpful for food banks and food pantries to help the general public understand better what these dates mean and why we distribute products past the date stamped on them and why those are still food safe, nutritious products that can still be received by community members that are food insecure,said Laura Held, Foodlink’s director of Food Bank Programs & Compliance."

“As we know, when summer hits, school meals disappear and families have to stretch their budgets and find access points to healthy foods, so Foodlink does a lot of great work with community partners to put food on the table,” said Mark Dwyer, director of marketing and communications for Foodlink."

Wegmans has launched its annual "Fill the Bus" campaign to support Foodlink as many kids lose access to school meals for the summer.

Foodlink was proud to welcome our fellow New York State food bankers for a behind-the-scenes look at our work—from a tour of our food bank to a visit at the Foodlink Community Farm. 🌱
