Today, on National First Responders Day, the Alzheimer’s Association Rochester & Finger Lakes joined our community for the dedication and unveiling of the new First Responders Memorial in downtown Rochester.
The ceremony honored Monroe County’s fallen firefighters, emergency medical services personnel, and emergency communications professionals who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to others.
One of the most moving moments was the tolling of the bell, a longstanding firefighting tradition known as the Final Alarm. The bell symbolizes the completion of a firefighter’s final call and serves as a solemn tribute to those who lost their lives in the line of duty.
At the Alzheimer’s Association, we recognize the important role first responders play in protecting and supporting our communities, including individuals and families affected by Alzheimer’s and other dementias.
We were honored to stand alongside our community in remembering their service, honoring their sacrifice, and expressing our deepest respect to their families and colleagues.
Their service will never be forgotten.
