Message from McDonald County Emergency Management

The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for McDonald County till 6 pm tonight.

A Slight (2 of 5) to Enhanced (3 of 5) Risk for severe thunderstorms exists along and south of I-44 for today. Storms could occur as early as 10 AM to 12 PM, and last until late evening. The main hazards will be large hail up to the size of golf balls to tennis balls, but a tornado cannot be ruled out after 3 PM.

Strong to severe storms are expected to develop along a cold front this afternoon with the best chances of storms along and east of U.S. 65. All modes of severe weather will be possible, including the potential for very large hail and a few large tornadoes.

Severe Weather Tonight
Good afternoon, Tonight may get a little dicey with the weather. A small portion of our NW Corner of the County is in the Enhanced (level 3 out of 5) and the rest is in a Slight (Level 2 out of 5). They have updated the severe wind threat with 60 to 80 mph winds possible. If your email is in the system, I sent the 2 threat map as it currently sits. All modes of severe are possible with a Level 4 out of 5 just NW of us. Main timeframe appears to be after 5 pm till about 1 am.

Busy day for our volunteers today.
Gave the winner of Rocky’s school carnival “Ride to school in a fire truck” certificate a ride this morning.
Shortly after responded to a Structure Fire.
Then right to training.
Wrapped it up with 2 more calls after that.
