Despite regular maintenance, the library’s elevator has experienced a critical equipment failure. As a result, the elevator will be out of service until we are able to repair or replace the necessary systems. While we are already working with vendors to assess the situation and restore the elevator to service as quickly as possible, it has become abundantly clear that this project will take time and a considerable amount of money. We do not have a firm date for when the elevator will be back in service but it will likely take months with the potential for a late spring re-opening at the earliest. We'd rather tell you that up front; it will be a long process.

Programs and events will be moved to the first floor when possible, and staff at the Information Desk will be happy to assist with retrieving materials from upstairs. In the coming days and weeks, we will be working with organizations that use the library’s meeting rooms, which are accessed via one or more flights of stairs, to offer alternatives to mitigate the disruption we know this will cause.

If you have a specific question or concern about how these changes will affect your ability to access library services, please email us at [email protected].

We have already received questions about how members of the public might support the library by making a donation toward the cost of the repair. Those who are moved to do so may make a donation in person at the Circulation Desk or through the library's website at www.jervislibrary.org/support-the-library/make-a-monetary-donation. Thank you!

Join us in the Children's Room all day on November 3rd for Kids Vote! This mock election for children is held annually at the library to provide adults with the tools to teach children about civics! Information packets about voting and elections are available for children to take home.

Kids can vote in their very own mock election with ballots that mirror the real thing, but feature characters they recognize as the candidates. After, the election winners will be posted on social media. Adults are also welcome to vote in the kids election!
