Over the weekend, our department participated in the 20th Annual BJ’s Golf Scramble benefiting the Burley Burnout Fund.⛳️

Through this fundraiser, the Burley Burnout Fund has made a tremendous impact in our community by helping fire victims, supporting Meals on Wheels, and providing scholarships for local youth.

A huge thank you to everyone who organizes and volunteers their time to make this event possible each year. It is always a fun and memorable event, and we look forward to being a part of it every year!

For first responders, some calls stay with us long after the sirens are silent. The sights, sounds, and emotions experienced on difficult scenes can leave lasting impacts that aren't always visible to others.

Approximately 140 to 150 first responders die by su***de each year in the U.S, Depending on the specific role, 10% to 30% of first responders develop PTSD or similar behavioral health conditions. This equates to approximately 400,000 first responders in the U.S. reporting symptoms.

During PTSD Awareness Month, we recognize the courage it takes not only to answer the call, but also to acknowledge when the weight of those experiences becomes heavy. Looking out for one another has always been a part of the job. Let's continue to check in on our brothers and sisters, have the hard conversations, and remind each other that seeking help is a sign of strength, not weakness.

Today, we remember and honor the courageous men and women who gave their lives while serving our country. Their sacrifice is a powerful reminder of the strength, honor, and commitment that define our nation.

We were joined by Raft River Fire and Ambulance Protection District as we worked on refining our Denver Prop Drill training.

Denver Prop Drill — a firefighter rescue training exercise designed to help Rapid Intervention Crews practice removing a downed firefighter from a confined space through a raised window. This drill and prop are named after a tragic incident in September 1992 in Denver, Colorado, where firefighter Mark Langvardt became trapped and died in a 28-inch-wide hallway blocked by filing cabinets. Because conventional rescue techniques failed in that confined area, this specific drill and prop were created to teach firefighters specialized body mechanics and teamwork for these worst-case scenarios.

Training like this builds coordination, communication, and the skills needed to perform under pressure when seconds matter most.

East End Fire & Rescue spent the weekend at a First Responder Trap Shoot, and it was time well spent! We appreciate every opportunity to connect with others in the first responder community and enjoy a little friendly competition.

A huge thank you to Les Schwab for generously sponsoring all first responders, and to Cedar Canyon in Paul for supplying our shells—made possible by an anonymous donor. Your support truly made this weekend possible, and we appreciate your contribution to our department and the first responders in our community.
