For those who might not know, there is a small bronze plaque on the north side of Main Street just to the west of the intersection with 664 marking the site of what was once the home of Benjamin Hanby. The house was demolished probably in the 1920s. The house that stands there today was once the house of Dr Robert Bode.

The plaque reads:
“THE HOME STOOD HERE IN WHICH BEN HANBY COMPOSED THE ORIGINAL SONG “DARLING NELLIE GRAY.” HE ACQUIRED THE INSPIRATION FOR THE SONG THRU HIS FRIENDS HERE, RELATING THE ROMANTIC.AND TRAGIC CHAPTER FROM THE LIFE STORY OF JOE SELBY, A FUGITIVE UNDERGROUND SLAVE, WHO LEFT HIS SWEETHEART NELLIE GRAY IN THE SOUTH HOMELAND. SELBY BECAME ILL WHILE PASSING THRU HERE, DIED, AND WAS BURIED IN THE RUSHVILLE CEMETERY SOUTH OF RUSHVILLE.”

“Hello! My name is Amanda Jane Stern, and I am a Producer with American Pickers (on the History Channel). I am reaching out today because we are planning to return to Indiana, Ohio, and Michigan this October and would love to see if your Chamber/Publication would be willing to help us get the word out to collectors in your area? We're looking for leads throughout the state, specifically interesting characters with fascinating items! The way we find people and collections for our show is through spreading the word far and wide so that people know we’re coming to town.
Attached is a press release, a flyer, and some photos that you are welcome to share with your community, individuals, social media, etc. We also have Facebook: American Pickers on the History Channel; you can share our page by clicking here. Keep in mind, we are looking for different, unusual, and unique items - something we’ve never seen before with an extraordinary story!
Collectors interested in being considered for the show should reach out to us by phone at (646) 493-2184 or email at [email protected]. Be sure to have them include their full name, city/state, contact information, and a brief description of their collection. Also, please note that the Pickers only pick private collections, so NO stores, malls, flea markets, museums, auctions, businesses, or anything open to the public.
Thank you so much for your time!”

Sirens are meant as a last line of defense. They should never be your only source of warning.

Outdoor Warning Sirens aren't intended to be heard indoors, and they don’t alert you to hazards like straight-line winds, flooding, or other non-tornadic threats.

Have multiple ways to receive severe weather alerts!

FYI: we have been informed that a Key to Giving program is being shut down and can no longer be used for the Hometown Heroes banners. We are currently looking for another nonprofit organization to help us with these donations. Thank you.
