💔 MASS EVICTION — JUNE 1 (STEP UP ON SECOND) 💔🚨 still outside

🏢 City of Sacramento / Step Up on Second shelter system

This family was part of the mass eviction on June 1, when people were suddenly displaced with nowhere to go.

Now, weeks later, the consequences are still unfolding — with families still pushed into survival on the streets.

👩‍👧‍👦 A mother and her children — including a 1-year-old baby, a 13-year-old, and a 16-year-old — are now living outside in 101° heat ☀️💔

In the photo, if you look closely, there is a potty chair sitting on the sidewalk 🚽
That detail says everything.

How do you potty train a 1-year-old 👶 when there is no home, no bathroom, no privacy — only pavement, heat, and survival?

This is what displacement looks like in real time. 💔

Families stripped of basic human conditions, forced to meet a baby’s needs in spaces never meant for living, let alone childhood.
A baby doesn’t stop needing care because a shelter closes.

A mother doesn’t stop trying because there is nowhere left to go.

But no family and no child should ever be placed in this situation. 🚫
We are urgently trying to get this family into a safe hotel room tonight 🏨

We need immediate support:

🏨 Hotel sponsor for emergency placement
💵 room and basic supplies

💧 Water, food, and heat relief items

Let’s get these families indoors and out of the heat. 🙏

No child should be displaced into 101° streets. Not ever. 💔☀️👶🏽👧🏽👩🏽‍👧‍👦

🥵☀️ It's so hot outside that this crayon melted.

While most of us can go inside and cool off, thousands of people in Sacramento are being forced to survive this heat on asphalt, dirt lots, sidewalks, and under whatever shade they can find. Their pets are enduring it too.

Today we visited a large encampment and found people desperately needing water. We distributed what we had, but our supplies are gone. Simultaneously we received messages from our case managers on the ground.

At 101°F, dehydration, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke become serious risks. Something as simple as a bottle of water can make a real difference.

Every dollar goes toward getting water and other life-saving supplies to people trying to survive this extreme heat.

🖍️ If a crayon can't survive this heat, imagine what it's like sleeping in it. 💧☀️🐾

🚨 🚨 MEET THIS MOTHER AND HER 12-YEAR-OLD DAUGHTER 🚨
This family was displaced from one of Sacramento's hotel shelter programs during the mass displacement that began on June 1, when Step Up and the City of Sacramento cut homeless services and forced people out with little notice.

Despite public claims that everyone would be accommodated, many families were not returned to shelter. More than 100 people were impacted by these cuts, leaving vulnerable residents scrambling for safety and stability.

Today, this mother and her daughter are moving from place to place trying to survive the extreme heat. They have been forced to sleep wherever they can find shelter, including in a laundry room, simply to stay out of dangerous temperatures.

We are urgently seeking:
🏨 Room sponsorships
🏠 Temporary housing opportunities
💵 Donations to help secure safe shelter
🤝 Community support and outreach

No child should be sleeping on the streets during a Sacramento heatwave.

We also urge community members to contact Sacramento City Council and demand accountability. The City chose to cut homeless services while continuing to budget for vacant police positions that are not currently filled. Those budget decisions have real consequences for families like this one.

If you can help provide a room, temporary housing, or other assistance for this mother and daughter, please send me a message immediately.
