A new report analyzing national rates of sexual harassment and assault has found that self-disclosures rose 3x from 2018 to 2024!

The report by the Newcomb Institute at Tulane University analyzes their 2018 and 2024 2018 Surveys on sexual harassment and assault nationally, and VALOR is proud to be a partner of their research.

The higher rates of awareness reported in the analysis means that there are more possibilities for preventing violence, healing after harm, and shifting culture.

The Department of Justice's plan to consolidate the OVW, the Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS Office), and the Office of Justice Programs (OJP) into a single grantmaking bureau would weaken the ability for survivors to heal after harm. Congress needs to hear directly from the communities these grants support.

All survivors deserve to heal after sexual assault and gender-based violence. Violence doesn't discriminate, and the life-saving programs that they depend on shouldn't either. OMB's proposed rule will allow federal agencies the ability to determine federal funding awards based on ideology, not community needs or congressional allocations.

Good news! All of our powerful advocacy, from calling, writing, and advocating for survivors to get the services they need and deserve, was successful!
This funding sustains Californians' access to mental health support after sexual assault, shelter after fleeing domestic violence, legal support after escaping human trafficking, and advocacy after child abuse, and other life-saving services.
However, $50 million only keeps victim services afloat for one year. So, we are celebrating this win while continuing our federal advocacy and planning for next year until a long-term solution is found.
