Sacramento Region Community Foundation We lead, serve, and inspire enduring philanthropy for a just and vibrant Sacramento region.

In the early 1980’s, a small group of community leaders saw a need in the Sacramento region – a need for stable, permanent, financial support that would promote charitable giving and increase the capacity of local nonprofits to meet the growing region’s critical needs. In 1982, a steering committee was formed by the Junior League of Sacramento to explore the idea and attract the necessary funding

to turn the community foundation from concept to reality. The Sacramento Regional Foundation was officially incorporated in April of 1983. Over 35 years later, the Sacramento Region Community Foundation, as it is now called, manages over 700 charitable funds for local families, businesses and nonprofits. The majority of those funds are permanently endowed and total assets have grown to $170 million. Annual grants from our charitable funds have grown from $272,900 in 1983 to over $19 million in 2020, and more than $185 million since inception.

Meet the cohort of the Sacramento Countywide Nonprofit Partnership Initiative (SCNPI), 20-month capacity-building program created in partnership with the County of Sacramento and designed to strengthen mid-sized nonprofits that address homelessness, housing instability, and food insecurity in Sacramento County.

⭐ RANCHO CORDOVA FOOD LOCKER
The Rancho Cordova Food Locker is reimagining what food access can look like, moving beyond the traditional pantry model toward a dignified, grocery store-style experience where guests choose foods that reflect their household needs, cultural preferences, and dietary requirements. Serving over 1,500 households each week, Rancho Cordova Food Locker is now transitioning into the Community Food Hub, a more expansive and community-centered model that integrates edible food recovery, wraparound service connections, and a welcoming physical space designed to reduce stigma and increase belonging.

➡️ SCNPI FOCUS
The Rancho Cordova Food Locker will focus on strengthening fundraising systems and donor stewardship to support long-term financial sustainability; improving data and evaluation capacity to measure outcomes and guide program decisions; and investing in staff development and program infrastructure to manage the increased complexity of the Community Food Hub model.

⭐ THREE SISTERS GARDEN
Three Sisters Gardens recently launched a new urban garden project in South Sacramento's Mangan Park neighborhood, expanding its reach in the community. Through a variety of programs that donated over 41,000 pounds of organic produce in 2025 alone, and a Youth Leadership Development Program that pays young people to learn agriculture, food systems, and green career pathways, Three Sisters Gardens addresses food insecurity and reframes community power and self-determination.

Three Sisters Gardens will prioritize staff development and human resources systems to build leadership capacity from within; board governance to distribute decision-making and strengthen strategic oversight; and fundraising and financial systems to diversify revenue and build long-term sustainability.

⭐ ORANGEVALE-FAIR OAKS COMMUNITY FOUNDATION
Orangevale-Fair Oaks Community Foundation operates a community-centered system of support through the Orangevale-Fair Oaks Food Bank and Homeless Assistance Resource Team (HART). Together, these programs serve tens of thousands of residents across Orangevale, Fair Oaks, Citrus Heights, and Folsom each year. Demand for these services has grown rapidly, with food insecurity and housing instability increasing across the region; Orangevale-Fair Oaks Community Foundation served 30,570 individuals in 2023 and over 46,000 in 2025.

➡️ SCNPI FOCUS
Orangevale-Fair Oaks Community Foundation will focus on building the internal infrastructure needed to keep pace with the growth of demand by strengthening operational management systems, expanding data and evaluation capacity to better track community need and guide decision-making, and investing in leadership development.

⭐ SOUTH COUNTY SERVICES
South County Services Inc. has spent five decades serving the rural communities of South Sacramento County, including the Delta region towns of Galt, Isleton, Walnut Grove, Courtland, and Hood, where geographic isolation, limited transportation, and a lack of nearby services create compounding barriers for residents experiencing food insecurity and housing instability. Through weekly food distributions, mobile outreach, and homeless services that meet people where they are, South County Services provides a critical safety net for farmworkers, seniors, and families in need.

➡️ SCNPI FOCUS
South County Services will focus on building the internal capacity needed to sustain and grow that work: strengthening financial systems and diversify revenue and improving program systems to extend outreach to more residents across a wide, underserved geography.

We are holding a Q&A session tomorrow to share more details about a new grant opportunity for nonprofits headquartered in and serving North Sacramento and Del Paso Heights.

This two-year initiative will award up to $100,000 each ($50,000 per year) to five organizations that provide educational and mental health services for youth ages 12-18, supporting capacity-building projects each organization has identified as critical to strengthening its work. Applications are due August 10.

⭐ ELK GROVE FOOD BANK SERVICES
Elk Grove Food Bank Services has been a cornerstone of food access in the Elk Grove community for over 50 years, operating a comprehensive network of programs that address hunger and supports individuals facing homelessness and housing instability. In 2025 alone, Elk Grove Food Bank Services served over 21,000 people through a client-choice warehouse model, seven senior mobile distribution sites, home delivery for homebound residents, school-based distributions, and ready-to-eat meals and hygiene support for people experiencing homelessness.

➡️ SCNPI FOCUS
Elk Grove Food Bank Services will focus on strengthening the internal systems needed to sustain and grow its work: improving data infrastructure and client tracking to better identify and serve individuals at risk of homelessness, expanding outreach and mobile distribution capacity to reach seniors and other residents with limited mobility, and building fundraising and financial systems to diversify revenue and reduce donor fatigue.

⭐ SACRAMENTO COTTAGE HOUSING, INC.
Sacramento Cottage Housing, Inc. has spent three decades providing a genuine pathway to stability for people in need. Across its two communities, Quinn Cottages and Serna Village, Cottage Housing provides housing for approximately 300 individuals and families each year, pairing permanent supportive housing with individualized coaching, trauma-informed services, youth programming, financial literacy, and on-site food pantries.

➡️ SCNPI FOCUS
Cottage Housing will focus on the organizational infrastructure that makes sustained impact possible over the long term. Its top priorities are succession planning and board governance, staff development, and retention systems to reduce burnout and maintain the consistent, relationship-based coaching.

⭐ ALCHEMIST CDC
Alchemist CDC's connected system of programs span food access, workforce development, entrepreneurship, and community-based spaces, helping Sacramento residents move from immediate crisis toward long-term stability. Over the past year, Alchemist CDC has focused on aligning its programs, so community members accessing food assistance are also more consistently connected to job training, income opportunities, and other resources.

➡️ SCNPI FOCUS
Alchemist Community Development Corporation will strengthen the internal infrastructure that makes that work possible: investing in leadership, financial management, and cross-team coordination to deliver services more reliably and efficiently. Alchemist CDC is also deepening its commitment to community voice, incorporating participant feedback and lived experience into program design to ensure services are effective, dignified, and grounded in the realities of the people they serve.

⭐ REFUGEE ENRICHMENT AND DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATION, INC.
Refugee Enrichment and Development Association (REDA) Inc. provides culturally responsive services to refugee and immigrant communities in Northern California with focus on the Greater Sacramento Valley. REDA Inc. helps individuals and families navigate building stability in a new country alongside housing instability, food insecurity, education challenges, and mental health challenges.

➡️ SCNPI FOCUS
REDA will focus on strengthening the internal systems needed to keep pace with growing demand: building fundraising capacity to diversify revenue beyond government grants; investing in technology and operational infrastructure to streamline case management and service coordination; and expanding staffing to reduce the strain on an already stretched team managing a high volume of complex client needs.

⭐ ACADEMYSTAY
AcademyStay addresses and interrupts the pipelines of young adults aging out of foster care entering homelessness. Operating a 32-unit campus in Del Paso Heights, AcademySTAY provides transitional housing and wraparound support exclusively to foster youth ages 18 to 24 who are actively pursuing college or vocational training. Since opening in October 2024, AcademySTAY has provided more than 11,000 safe nights of housing.

➡️ SCNPI FOCUS
AcademySTAY will focus on building the organizational infrastructure to match the pace of its rapid growth. A particular priority is developing the County contracting readiness and government funding knowledge that would open new, sustainable revenue streams to support services for students.

⭐ REBUILDING TOGETHER
Rebuilding Together Sacramento works at the front edge of homelessness prevention by keeping people in their homes, completing urgent repairs that allow residents to remain stably housed. For over 35 years, Rebuilding Together Sacramento has provided critical home repairs, safety modifications, and accessibility improvements for low-income homeowners, primarily older adults, people with disabilities, veterans, and families with young children.

➡️ SCNPI FOCUS
Rebuilding Together will focus on ways to strengthen their internal systems that lead to meaningful expansion of their reach and impact. Expanding outreach, improving data management and impact measurement, and strengthening donor engagement, grant readiness, and corporate partnerships will help the organization improve their resilience and plan for long-term growth.
