If you've spent your career diagnosing problems, rebuilding engines, troubleshooting hydraulic systems, or keeping heavy equipment mission-ready, your skills could make a real impact at CAL FIRE .

As a CAL FIRE Heavy Equipment Mechanic (Correctional Facility), you'll help maintain the vehicles and equipment that support wildfire response, public safety, and conservation efforts across California. Every repair helps keep our crews ready when they're needed most.

50 Years of Service. Endless Pathways to CAL FIRE. 🌲🔥

For half a century, the California Conservation Corps (CCC) has been a launching pad for CAL FIRE careers. Starting as a corpsmember allows you to arrive to CAL FIRE with real-world experience and the qualifications needed to hit the ground running.

Here is how the CCC builds the bridge to CAL FIRE:

Fire Service: Gain the wildland firefighting experience and certifications needed for the frontlines.

Resource Management: Participate in forestry and fuel reduction to qualify for Resource Management and Forestry roles.

Culinary Arts: Learn high-volume, fast-paced food service to manage mobile kitchen operations during major incidents.

The entry-level careers the CCC’s can help you gain experience towards includes: Fire Fighter I, Forestry Tech, and Cook Specialist I.
