The men and women of the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) are dedicated to the fire protection and stewardship of over 31 million acres of California's privately-owned wildlands. In addition, the Department provides varied emergency services in 36 of the State's 58 counties via contracts with local governments. 25 years later, we remember.

On Patriot Day, we honor the nearly 3,000 lives lost on September 11, 2001, as well as the families and communities forever changed by that day.

We remember the firefighters and emergency responders who ran toward danger to help others, many of whom never made it home. Their courage and sacrifice continue to shape the fire service and the way we answer the call.

We will never forget.

These highly trained K9s are essential to our mission, using their specialized senses to investigate the origin, cause, and circumstances of fires and bombings across the state. By uncovering critical clues, Flash and Mocha help our team determine if a fire is criminal in nature, ensuring those responsible are brought to justice and California's communities remain safe.
