California Volunteers We are the state office tasked with engaging Californians in service, volunteering and civic action.

Led by the state’s Chief Service Officer, Josh Fryday, California Volunteers is the state office tasked with engaging Californians in service, volunteering and civic action to tackle our State’s most pressing challenges while mobilizing all Californians to volunteer and serve in their communities. The service initiative was launched in response to the COVID-19 pandemic to build on the efforts of California Volunteers to establish a statewide volunteer corps to help with the state’s response to emergencies and disasters. California Volunteers also administers the AmeriCorps programs in California with over 80 programs providing critical services to more than 160,000 Californians annually.

This 9/11, we honor by coming together to serve. 🤲🏽✨

On September 11, we honor those we lost and the countless people who stepped forward to serve in the aftermath by coming together as a community.

At San Francisco State University, more than 450 volunteers joined together to pack 150,000+ meals for individuals and families experiencing food insecurity. 🥫🫙📦

This is what unity looks like. This is what service looks like. And this is how we carry the spirit of September 11 forward. 🧡💙

25 years later, we remember September 11, 2001, by honoring the spirit of unity and service that brought people together in the aftermath of tragedy.

We’re thrilled to welcome CSUN as one of our newest College Corps campuses and excited about this new partnership. 🪴Celebrate California Biodiversity Day through Service!🫶

California is home to some of the most diverse landscapes, plants and wildlife in the world—and protecting them takes all of us.

From restoring habitats and planting native species to removing invasive plants and supporting climate resilience, members and volunteers are taking action across the state to help protect the places and ecosystems that make California extraordinary.

This year, California State Parks and partners are hosting nearly 200 events statewide, including more than 100 opportunities from September 5–13, where Californians can connect with nature, learn about our state’s biodiversity and discover ways to become environmental stewards.

And you don’t have to be an environmental expert to make a difference. Through , every Californian can take meaningful steps to protect the communities and natural spaces we call home.

🥫 Today is National Food Bank Day.💞

Food banks are an essential part of strong communities and volunteers play a critical role in helping get food where it’s needed most. 🫶

For years, has partnered with food banks across the state, mobilizing service members and volunteers to sort, pack and distribute food while helping strengthen local capacity to address food insecurity. Through initiatives like Operation Feed California, service has helped bring communities together to support Californians in need.

But service doesn’t stop there. Whether you volunteer your time, donate resources, organize a food drive or lend a helping hand, there’s a role for everyone in building stronger communities.
