California Volunteers We are the state office tasked with engaging Californians in service, volunteering and civic action.

Led by the state’s Chief Service Officer, Josh Fryday, California Volunteers is the state office tasked with engaging Californians in service, volunteering and civic action to tackle our State’s most pressing challenges while mobilizing all Californians to volunteer and serve in their communities. The service initiative was launched in response to the COVID-19 pandemic to build

on the efforts of California Volunteers to establish a statewide volunteer corps to help with the state’s response to emergencies and disasters. California Volunteers also administers the AmeriCorps programs in California with over 80 programs providing critical services to more than 160,000 Californians annually.

GO-Serve Director and California Chief Service Officer Josh Fryday joined CBS 8 San Diego and Big Brothers Big Sisters of San Diego County to discuss the new “Men Who Show Up” campaign and the , an effort to recruit more mentors and address the growing challenges facing young men.

Seeing service in action. 🧡💙

California Volunteers Commissioners recently visited California Justice Leaders for a site tour and roundtable discussion with AmeriCorps members, staff and community partners. The visit highlighted how members are making a difference by supporting young people and strengthening communities through service.

The roundtable provided an opportunity to hear directly from those leading and participating in the work, sharing insights on the program’s impact and the power of service to create lasting change.

For six years, CJL has been a valued California Volunteers partner, engaging more than 350 AmeriCorps members since 2020 to serve communities and help young people thrive.
Together, we’re building stronger communities and creating pathways for the next generation.
