The Department takes in, investigates, conciliates, mediates and prosecutes violations under the Fair Employment and Housing Act (FEHA), Disabled Persons Act, Unruh Civil Rights Act and Ralph Civil Rights Act. The CRD has five California offices in Elk Grove (Headquarters), Bakersfield, Fresno, Los Angeles, and Riverside.

LEGAL ALERT: Despite recent federal changes, California renters with disabilities still have the right to request an emotional support animal (ESA). The protections below are not going anywhere:

• California law still requires landlords to allow renters with disabilities to have an ESA as a reasonable accommodation.
• Renters do not need to prove ESA training or certification
• CRD is still taking ESA discrimination complaints

Today, we reflect on these words from the constitution that affirm our nation’s power comes directly from its people.

The civil rights we have today come from you, our fellow Americans. Throughout our nation’s history, it’s been the collective action of the people that has inspired constitutional amendments, legislation, and change. “We the People” are all part of the fight to ensure a more equal and inclusive nation.

Today, remember we all as Americans still hold this power, now more than ever. From all of us at CRD, have a safe 4th of July!
