The St Albans Fire Department reminds residents to take all propane gas odors and alarm activations seriously.
If you smell gas or your Propane detector goes off:
• Evacuate immediately.
• Do not turn lights or appliances on or off.
• Call 911 from a safe location.
• Do not open doors or windows unless needed for evacuation.
SAFD is always ready to respond. If you’re unsure, call—your safety is our priority.

The St Albans Fire Department reminds all residents that working smoke detectors, propane gas detectors, and carbon monoxide detectors are essential for home safety.

• Install smoke detectors on every level of your home and in all sleeping areas.
• Install carbon monoxide detectors outside all sleeping areas and on each level.
• Install propane gas detectors if your home uses propane.
• Test all detectors monthly and replace batteries as needed.
• Replace smoke detectors every 10 years and CO detectors as recommended by the manufacturer.

These devices provide early warning and save lives. Make sure your home is protected. If an alarm ever sounds and you’re unsure why, evacuate and call 911.

This afternoon, members of the St. Albans Fire Department joined fire departments from across the region in honoring Warden Tibbetts during a procession following his line-of-duty death.

Warden Tibbetts served with the Warden Service for 18 years. Today, hundreds gathered in Bangor to celebrate his life, service, and sacrifice.

May he rest in peace.

On the second Monday of each month, firefighters gather for monthly training. This evening, firefighters practiced full “roll-up drills,” conducting simultaneous simulated fire suppression, search and rescue, and water supply operations. This type of training is critical to keeping firefighters ready to answer the call.

Mondays aren’t the only day firefighters train. Additional trainings are often scheduled throughout the month as well. This year alone, St. Albans firefighters have collectively completed over 350 hours of training to keep their skills sharp and continue learning new ones.

FMO Arrests St. Albans Woman on Arson, Domestic Violence Charges

Investigators with the Office of State Fire Marshal arrested 61-year-old Lisa Hall of St. Albans, Tuesday, May 5, 2026, on an active arrest warrant charging her with Arson and Domestic Violence Assault stemming from a fire that occurred on April 17, 2026, in St. Albans. Fire Marshal Investigators were called to a residence on Grant Road in St. Albans on the morning of April 17, 2026, at the request of the St. Albans Fire Department due to the suspicious nature of the incident. After completing a fire scene examination and conducting several interviews, Investigators determined the fire had been intentionally set. At the conclusion of the investigation, an arrest warrant for Hall was sought by investigators and issued by the court. That same morning, it is alleged that Hall also assaulted her husband, prior to the fire. On May 5, 2026, Hall was located and arrested in Bangor. Hall was transported to the Penobscot County Jail where she is being held on $10,000 cash bail.

In 2024, the St. Albans Fire Department was awarded a grant to enhance the safety of our snowmobile trails through improved marking and mapping. The Fire Department and the Sno-Devils Snowmobile Club worked together to successfully complete this project.

This past winter, the Sno-Devils installed new trail signs at key intersections. Each sign includes a unique marker that corresponds with our trail maps and identifies the nearest plowed road. The Fire Department now has full access to these maps, which are also integrated into our call mapping software to improve emergency response.

We would like to thank the Sno-Devils for their partnership and hard work in making this project a success.

This project was made possible through a grant from Skowhegan Savings bank. It will undoubtedly improve safety for all who use the trail system.

The St. Albans Fire Department is happy to share an update on our water and ice rescue capabilities.

Over the past four years, the department has budgeted, secured grants, and purchased water and ice rescue equipment to address the risks posed by the many local streams, rivers, lakes, and ponds in our area.

Our newest additions include an inflatable rescue craft and dry suits, allowing us to respond to ice, open water, and floodwater rescues year-round.

This equipment is now in service, and many of our members are already trained in its use. It is also available to assist our mutual aid partners when requested.

Is your address clearly visible? When seconds count, finding your home quickly can make all the difference.

We strongly encourage all residents to make sure their address is clearly visible from the road. Whether it’s day or night, in good weather or bad, your address should be easy for emergency responders to locate without delay.

Here are a few simple tips:
• Use large, reflective numbers that are easy to read from the street
• Place your numbers on your home or mailbox, facing the road. Consider making it visible from both directions.
• Keep them clear of snow, trees, and obstructions year-round
• Make sure they are visible from both directions of travel, if possible

In an emergency, every second matters. Help us help you by making sure your address is easy to find.
