Last week, Capt. Earl, Lt. Power, and Lt. Watkins traveled to Tennessee, to attend a Swiftwater Rescue II course.

The advanced training included paddling and guiding inflatable rescue rafts, advanced tethered-swimming rescues, V-lower techniques, and nighttime swiftwater operations.

Thank you to the Tennessee Association of Rescue Squads for providing excellent instruction and the opportunity to continue building our swiftwater rescue capabilities.

*Guard Spotlight*

Last Friday at 5am, Lifeguards Ruben Anderson and Diogo Spiandorello began their circumnavigation of Anastasia Island!

In just over 10 hours (including some short breaks for hydration and fuel from ) at 3:18pm on lifeguard spec surf skis, these guards successfully accomplished their 35 mile goal!

Ruben is a third year lifeguard, former junior guard, and an all around great athlete. Diogo is a 2nd year guard, strong all around guard and athlete, and aspiring firefighter. The boats that they paddled are 19ft ocean kayaks, primarily used for lifeguard sprint competitions.

This year the paddle around the Island wasn’t just for bragging rights, they paddle in support of land conservation in SJC. Great job on this amazing accomplishment for a great cause!
