🎃 Our students took part in a spooky storytelling workshop, exploring elements of suspense, including eerie settings, mysterious characters, and unexpected plot twists. They started their own spooky tales before passing them to classmates to continue. With each new writer, the stories took unexpected turns as students shared ideas, built on one another’s creativity, and worked together to keep the suspense going.

This hands-on activity strengthened reading, writing, and critical thinking skills while highlighting the importance of teamwork and collaboration in the creative process!

🎨 Creativity in action at Altus! Our students explored their artistic talents through the VAPA art session, Depth of Space Landscapes! Students learned techniques to create the illusion of distance and depth while designing their own unique landscape masterpieces.

Led by our VAPA Department, these virtual art sessions provide all materials and welcome all Altus students at their assigned Resource Centers.

Save the Date: Our next Altus Art session is on October 29! Students will have another opportunity to explore their creativity through our upcoming art project, Vanitas Skulls. We look forward to seeing them experiment with new techniques and bring their artistic ideas to life!

Open Houses are in full swing! 🎉 Our Open Houses are a great opportunity to connect with our team, explore our programs, and learn about the many opportunities available to our students, from course offerings and field trips to college and career pathways, dual enrollment, and more!

At just 16, Jason is an 11th grader at Altus Schools Mirus who is on pace to graduate early while also pursuing his passion for music as the bassist for Southern California band Reliquae!

With just nine classes left to graduate, Jason has been able to take advantage of opportunities that fit his goals, from getting a head start on high school credits in middle school to participating in AVID and CLD, taking Articulated Teacher Education 2, and pursuing Dual Enrollment. Jason is able to balance his academics with performing at venues like the House of Blues and Wh**ky a Go Go, and his band is preparing to sign with a record label and head out on tour.

Jason’s story is a great example of how the flexibility at Altus Schools can give students the freedom to move at their own pace, explore their interests, and create an education that works for them. We can’t wait to see where Jason’s talent, hard work, and love of music take him next!
