Labor Day weekend has arrived and the California Highway Patrol will begin a Holiday Enforcement Period (HEP) beginning at 6:00 p.m. on Friday and continue through 11:59 p.m. on Monday.
CHP officers will be out working on removing impaired drivers from our roadways. We highly encourage to plan ahead and designate a sober driver, use a ride-share service, or arrange for a safe ride home if your plans include consuming alcohol.
A DUI is completely preventable. Don’t risk your life or the lives of others by driving impaired.
Please buckle up, obey posted speed limits, eliminate distractions, and drive responsibly.

The California Highway Patrol San Diego Area congratulates newly appointed Knoxville Police Department Officer Christopher Hershey on his recent graduation from the Basic Recruit Class.

Christopher’s father, Steve Hershey, honorably served with the California Highway Patrol and was assigned to the San Diego Area. Although Steve passed away in 2018, his friendship, memory and service lives on with his CHP San Diego Area family.

Christopher now carries the legacy forward as he embarks on a career in law enforcement, honoring his father’s efforts and dedicating himself to protecting and serving the people of Knoxville.

Christopher, the CHP San Diego Area is incredibly proud of you. We know your dad is very proud of the path you have chosen and the officer you have become.

A crash scene demands the attention of first responders—but far too often, an additional crash occurs within close proximity due in part to distracted or inattentive driving behaviors.

Becoming distracted for even a few seconds can have serious consequences. Distracted driving not only places you at risk—it also endangers your passengers, other motorists, and the emergency personnel working to keep everyone safe.

The public is reminded to remain alert and attentive to their driving at all times. Don’t drive distracted!
