It was so nice to see Pajaro Valley High School students at the Capitol during their trip from Watsonville to Washington! They had some fantastic questions, and I hope that this visit inspired them to consider the many ways they can serve our community and our country.

It’s heartbreaking to see little kids appearing all alone in immigration court, without a lawyer. This week, I led 15 of my colleagues to introduce the Fair Day in Court for Kids Act, to ensure that unaccompanied minors get legal representation during immigration proceedings.

The proposed ICE facility near Gilroy likely violates federal laws and procedures. I applaud Attorney General Rob Bonta and Santa Clara County for their lawsuit to stop this development, and in Congress, I am introducing several amendments that would block funding for this detention center.
