Enjoyed the Annual board installation and Community awards ceremony at Child & Family Center. I am humbled and honored to be given the opportunity to serve on their board. I am grateful for the work they do every day to help individuals overcome the challenges and devastation that come from abuse, neglect and mental health struggles. Super proud of Sarah Gilberts who received the “Hope and Healing Award” for the work she does at the Hart district. Nikki Buckstead provides excellent leadership as the CEO of Child & Family Center

Happy to see Sarah earning this award! She really does go above and beyond for students.

The district co-sponsors a monthly “call with a psychiatrist”. Anyone can tune in to share a problem and get a qualified answer. I called in one time to anonymously share a problem that a student was having. Not knowing that I was a board member, she reached out to me to follow up. I was able to put them in touch and she helped get that student and parent the resources they needed for healing. I will never forget that. With so many students in need she cared about each one. Thank you Sarah! And thank you Child & Family Center for making resources available to support our work!

My book recommendation for this month was inspired by 3 important holidays. First is Father's Day. The importance of Fathers cannot be overstated. I would like to pay homage to the Father of us all. The one that we acknowledge every time we pledge allegiance to this nation through our American flag.

Next, as we are quickly approaching the 250th Birthday of our nation, is the person universally considered the father of our nation, George Washington. This tiny book contains his farewell address. Reading it, you will notice the awe and reverence he has for the concept of Liberty. The people of our young nation worked so hard to break away from the confines of English rule, motivated by the dream of freedom and democracy. It didn't happen over night. It would take many years of working and even fighting (civil war). But with inspired individuals who worked tirelessly and overcame selfish ambition for a greater cause, we are the beneficiaries of the constitution and the 13th amendment that allow our citizens greater freedom than anywhere else. 250 years later, it is easy to take that liberty for granted. The people I meet who recognize and appreciate our unique Liberty the most are usually immigrants who know what it is like to live elsewhere.

Another message in George Washington's farewell address is his fervent appeal for us to remain united. United we stand, divided we fall. This sentiment reflects our goal as a district as well…to be One Hart. Once again, I will borrow Golden Valley's motto- diversity is our strength, Unity is our goal.

I would like to end by giving a Huge shout out to all the good dads out there! I have seen through my lifetime the tremendous impact a father can have on his child. I am grateful to all of you dads who are diligent, committed, loving fathers!!!

Today we celebrate Juneteenth, a day that reminds us of the importance of freedom, education, and opportunity. At the WiSH Education Foundation, we believe every student deserves the chance to learn, grow, and reach their full potential. As we honor this historic day, we remain committed to supporting educational opportunities that help build a stronger and more inclusive future for all. Happy Juneteenth.
