Coastal Heritage Society’s annual Battlefield Memorial March is this Friday, October 9.

As part of the nationwide America 250 commemoration, we invite the community to honor those who fought in the 1779 Battle of Savannah, one of the Revolutionary War’s most pivotal conflicts, where approximately 800 troops were killed or wounded.

It is our privilege each year to remember their sacrifice and reflect on Savannah’s enduring role in our nation’s founding.

The free, public event begins promptly at 9 a.m. Guests are asked to gather at 8:45 a.m. in the parking lot of Savannah History Museum, 303 MLK Jr. Blvd., Savannah.

Together, we will retrace the footsteps of soldiers down West Boundary Street and along Louisville Road, ending at Battlefield Memorial Park for a wreath-laying and remembrance ceremony.

All six Coastal Heritage Society sites will be open on Monday, October 12th.

Highlights:
*a special open day at Pin Point Heritage Museum from 10AM–2PM. Tours at 10:30AM, 11:30AM and 12:30PM.

*train rides on the hour from 10AM–3PM at Georgia State Railroad Museum

*a special open day at Savannah Children's Museum, 9AM-3PM

*American Revolutionary War cannon exhibit at Savannah History Museum, featuring recently restored cannons recovered from the Savannah River near Old Fort Jackson after spending about 240 years beneath the water.

Our Coastal Heritage Society historical interpreters enjoyed bringing our "Life of a Soldier" program directly into local classrooms this morning. Eighth grade students at Georgetown K-8 learned about the daily routines, skills, and historic conflicts tied to Old Fort Jackson. We love partnering with local schools like Georgetown K-8 to make local history engaging, interactive, and accessible for students across our community. Thank you for having us today Savannah-Chatham County Public School System.
