Stop out and see us TOMORROW at the Chagrin Lee Fest from 12 - 6 p.m.! The weather is supposed to be fantastic, and there will be music, food, and carnival games, AND we're bringing back the ever-popular Shaker Library lollipop pull. 🎪🍭😋

The new Fall Event Guide has hit the desks, and with it, an announcement about someone special visiting us in November.

We're partnering with the Shaker Schools Foundation and the Shaker Historical Society to host an evening with Susan Orlean, celebrating the 1-year anniversary of her memoir, "Joyride," and it's paperback launch.

THANK YOU Stephanie! ❤️👏

Our spunky volunteer Stephanie Jonas has been running the Friends Book Sale and Book Sort Room for the past 18 years, helping the library fundraise an estimated $180,000 for programming throughout her tenure (though likely higher – the records have been lost to time).

Stephanie will be retiring from leading those ventures sometime this year, and the Friends hosted a Thank You dinner in her honor last month.

Please join us in thanking Stephanie for her volunteer work, which has benefited and touched so many people in our community and enabled us to do our important work.

Proceeds from the book sales Stephanie ran directly funded library programming for all ages over the past 18 years, including Summer Reading.

Summer Reading is over, but the chance to collect prizes is not!

At 60 days of reading, kids get to put a book plate in a book of their choice from our collection. It's their way of saying, "This book made an impact on me, and I want to tell everyone how special I think it is."

We LOVE to see the wonderful diversity of books our Shaker Library kiddos are choosing. Photographed here, Harmoni picked Sam Hume's "An Anthology of Aquatic Life" and Hendrix chose Christian Robinson's "You Matter."

If you've been in the computer area at Main Library lately, you may have noticed things in the adjoining makerspaces look a little different.

We're excited to share we recently completed a renovation of The Creative Spaces, adding new tools and software that offer “a space to craft your story.”

Highlights of the renovation include:

🧶 Craft storage carts on wheels, organized by craft category, for easy access.
✂️ Durable tables surfaced with butcher block for cutting and heavy use.
🧵 Sewing machines (including one computerized machine) and a serger.
🎹 Music production tools such as a DJ controller and MIDI keyboard.
🌡️ Heat and rotary tools, such as high temperature heat guns, a dremel rotary tools, and soldering irons.
🔍 Items to make the space accessible, such as an adjustable table for people using wheelchairs, a magnifier for people who have trouble seeing, and PPE for people of all shapes and sizes.
🦺 In the interest of safety, a shop vac and air filtration system.
