Calling all Shaker Readers! 📣

The first Summer Reading prize milestone is upon us! Stop by either branch to pick out a Shaker Library sticker!

The designs this year feature Snowball the Bunny and Serafina the Dragon, our library mascots, as well as a rainbow and sun. We think they're great and hope you do too! 😎

Recycling just got a whole lot easier! ♻️👏😁

We realized some of our library users were confused about when to recycle and when to send something to the landfill. So the Friends of the Shaker Library went after and secured a grant to fund new and improved recycling bins with easy-to-read labels.

The grant is from Cuyahoga Recycles, people on a mission to help communities like ours recycle better.

Thanks to their combined efforts, “recycling right” has never been simpler. Not sure what goes where? The images on each bin have you covered.

A fantastic group of kiddos and their families joined us for our Summer Reading Kickoff Party on Monday!

It was a hot one! ☀️🔥🌡️ But we stayed cool with popsicles, lemonade, lawn games in the shade, and an epic balloon toss. And this generation of Shakerites took their turn climbing the tree outside Bertram Woods. 😇

😎 Preregister and find out more about Shaker Reads, our Summer Reading program for ages 0 - 11, at shakerlibrary.org/summer.

🎧Preregister and learn more about the Teen Summer Bucket List, our Summer Reading program for ages 12 - 18, at shakerlibrary.org/summer-teen.

Stop by either branch starting Monday, June 1 to pick up your FREE book and pick up a paper tracker. You can start logging to earn prizes on June 1 as well. Can't wait to see you all soon!

Every year, usually in May, Shaker Library staff celebrate the library fairies who visit Main Library and Bertram Woods. 🧚‍♀️🌟🫧

This year, we hosted Fairy Storytime and a Fairy Tea Party, which was so much fun! And our Fairy House Scavenger Hunt continues at Bertram Woods through the end of the month. Here is Ms. Megan posing with some of the dwellings our staff members created.

If you have been to the Play and Learn Station at Main Library, you have likely met Ellen Barcus.

Ellen, who works with the non-profit Family Connections, has been involved with running playrooms in Shaker for many, many years. Countless Shaker kiddos and their families have been impacted by her kindness, warmth, and insight. She is pictured here (left) with Brontie Phillips (right), the other Playroom Specialist you may recognize from the library.

All this to say: Ellen is retiring! 🙌🎈✨ Please join us in congratulating her and thanking her for her time with us.

Her last shift at the Play and Learn Station is this Saturday, 5/30, from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m., so if your family has been touched by Ellen in some way, please stop by to wish her well!
