We protect about 15,000 residents, in 7.7 square miles of land, and roughly 3 miles of Onondaga Lake shoreline.

Organized in 1895 the Solvay Fire Department is an ISO Class 2 department providing fire, rescue, and emergency medical services to Solvay, Geddes, and surrounding communities. Formed in 1895, our department is located immediately west of the City of Syracuse, covering the Syracuse Suburbs of Solvay, Westvale, and the Town of Geddes in Onondaga County, New York. Our district is densely populated, with a mix of residential, commercial, and heavy industry. The New York State Fairgrounds are located entirely in the Solvay Fire District. Solvay responds to over 1,400 calls for service annually, making Solvay the 3rd busiest fire department in Onondaga County in 2011. Solvay is staffed by a dedicated group of volunteers. Solvay has an active Student Bunk-In program and Explorer Post for our future firefighters. Until 2005, Solvay operated out of 3 year round Fire Stations, when Stations 1 and 3 were closed to combine and form the new Station 1. Solvay Station 1 in located in the industrial section of the district, and Station 2 located in a traditional Solvay neighborhood. Station 4, never changed designations after the merger of Stations 1 and 3, is located at the New York State Fairgrounds, and is staffed 24 hours a day with 6 personnel and Engine 21 during the 12 days of the Fair. Solvay has a long, proven relationship with many other public services. The Town of Geddes, Village of Solvay, Onondaga County, Town of Geddes Police Department, Village of Solvay Police Department, Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office, New York State Police, Rural/Metro Medical Services of Central New York, and Onondaga County 911 are close partners in our business, and contribute to the goal of providing the best possible service to our community.

Engine 21 is at Lakeland Park with the Lakeside Fire dept. For the first annual Town of Geddes Trunk or Treat. Come stop by and get some candy and c***r! 3pm - 6pm.

Yesterday afternoon we were dispatched to a report of smoke from a house in the Village. Engine 11 and Fairmount Fire Dept Engine 5 responded on dispatch. First arriving companies encountered a tree removal company blocking the road half way down the block. In spite of this, Engine 11 and Engine 5 arrived 3 minutes after dispatch, finding heavy smoke and fire. Companies initiated a fire attack and search for victims. A woman was located unconscious on the first floor. 6 minutes from dispatch the victim was out of the building, in respiratory arrest, and receiving life saving medical care from the Engine 11 & Truck 57 drivers and Fairmount personnel, ultimately being turned over to American Medical Response . The victim began to breathe on her own. The Engine 11 driver assisted AMR to Upstate. The victim is alive and being treated at UMC at the time of this release. Companies on scene continued to extinguish the blaze. The fire was under control in short order. No firefighters were injured. The cause of the fire is being investigated by Onondaga County EM FIU. TAUNTON FIRE Onondaga Hill Volunteers and Liverpool Fire also responded to the scene. Units cleared about 4 hours later.

Minor industrial fire this afternoon in the Village. Crews from Solvay and Fairmount Fire Dept laid an improvised standpipe, quickly knocking down the bulk of the fire. Companies spent the next 2 hours working with facility staff to separate materials and extinguish some pesky hot spots. Mutual aid from Taunton Fire Department Liverpool Fire Department and Lakeside fire district were quickly returned to service due to the minor nature of the fire. No injuries have been reported.

Truck 57 Engine 11 and Engine 21 responded to the Fairmount Fire Dept fire on Thursday. Crews worked for hours to control the blaze.

The Heavy Rescue assisted Fairmount Fire Dept on their motor vehicle collision with entrapment.

This morning we responded to a report of smoke from a house in the Village. Engine 11 arrived 3 minutes after dispatch locating a 1 story residence with light smoke showing. Upon entry Engine 11’s crew encountered heavy smoke and zero visibility in the basement. They quickly extinguished the fire, searches were conducted and companies ventilated the structure. Companies from Fairmount Fire Dept TAUNTON FIRE Liverpool Fire Department assisted on scene. Onondaga Hill Volunteers and Northwest covered our district. No injuries were reported, the cause is under investigation.

Rescue 11 goes to Onondaga Hill Volunteers for a small basement fire yesterday. Our company arrived with the Fairmount Fire Dept Truck sending 2 search teams to locate victims while the driver secured utilities. While conducting primaries team 1 located the fire room and assisted the handline to the fire. Companies overhauled and returned to service in about 90 minutes.

The truck and rescue responded to a fire in Fairmount last night. The truck arrived second; the search team searched while the driver laddered the building and Taunton crew opened the roof from the aerial. Rescue 11’s crew was released when they arrived due to the quick work of initial companies. Engine 12 handled in district alarms while units were out.
