Enter the world of the cult comedy "Clue," rated PG, with fellow classic film fans. Step inside a secluded mansion, size up the suspects and try to uncover the killer before time runs out, from 6-9 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7, in the Library Center Hatch Auditorium.

Iggi from the Republic Branch Library recommends "Cryptid Kids: The Bawk-ness Monster" by Sara Goetter.

"Do you love kids on bikes but wish the parents in that genre weren't always totally irresponsible? May I present you with 'The Bawk-ness Monster' a middle-grade comic by duo Sara Goetter and Natalie Riess. When Penny was a little girl she was rescued from drowning by a giant lake monster, part chicken, part fish, and now that she's moving away, it's her last chance to thank the creature! So she wrangles a couple friends and tells her mom she wants to go camping at the lake just like old times for their last weekend. Hijinks ensue. For real, I laughed out loud so many times reading this book. The art and writing are so, so funny and the plot is cartoonish and light-hearted. Penny's mom is determined to be a responsible adult throughout in the face of genre convention and I love it so much."

Grace Irwin, a former journalism teacher, celebrated her 100th birthday on September 19, 1990, in the Cambridge Retirement Center on Jefferson Avenue in Springfield.

Born in Greene County in 1890, Irwin was the daughter of Lucian and Ida Spangler and became a member of the second graduating class of Senior High School, now Central High School, in 1909. On June 12, 1912, she married Charles Irwin, a native of Indianapolis, Indiana, at her parents' home.

In addition to teaching journalism, she spent part of her career working as a postmistress.

📚 Large Print Book Club Kits: Choose from more than 35 titles, each with discussion questions to help spark conversation with friends.

🏡 Walking Books: For those unable to visit the library, staff can deliver materials directly to their residence each month, recommend books based on personal interests and help keep track of borrowed items.

In the 1950s, most Springfield businesses refused to serve Black customers. Alberta's Hotel was different. Located just a few blocks off Route 66, the hotel became a safe haven for Black travelers, earning a star in the Green Book and drawing guests from across the country.

Incredible world building? Check! Fully fleshed out characters? Check! An engaging plot? Check! If you’re wanting to read a fantasy story, but you don’t want to commit to a massive series or a 800 page story, this short and sweet novella will hit the spot!"
