Last night SVFC and United Fire Company crews got together to work on some rescue skills. The focus on the training was to work on scenarios that we do not normally encounter. Different stabilization tools and techniques, equipment types, and extrication skills were all put into practice last night.

Special thanks to Loren Welch for providing the location and vehicles to us!

Yesterday evening, SVFC, United Fire Company, Elk Lake Volunteer Fire Company and Montrose Minute Men were dispatched for a reported propane odor and hissing sound on SR3023 in the area of Carter Rd in Dimock Twp. SP11 arrived to find an underground propane tank with an audible leak and heavy propane odor. Crews shut down the roadway and isolated the area. Crews then dispersed the propane v***r with a hose line and checked the tank to try and stop the venting. Command requested Hinds Oil Co. to the scene to assist with the isolation of the tank due to being unable to be secured. Once onscene they provided the necessary equipment and the leak was stopped. Crews monitored for any signs of leaking after the tank was isolated and were able to clear the scene shortly after. There were no injuries or other issues as a result of the leaking tank. Special thanks to Hinds Oil for responding out to assist us!

This morning SVFC had the opportunity to participate in a mock crash at the Elk Lake School for the students ahead of their prom. Members from Rush Fire Department, Elk Lake Volunteer Fire Company, Montrose Minute Men, Meshoppen Fire Company, Susquehanna County Emergency Management Agency,, Susquehanna 911, Susquehanna County Sheriff, Coroner, PA State Police and Guthrie Medivac all participated to show the consequences of impaired driving.

This was a good opportunity for students to see what can happen when you drive distracted or impaired.

Last night members went out to train on drafting water. While in most instances we draft from a dry hydrant or directly out out of pond with the apparatus, tonight we worked on other techniques.

The engine was tasked to draft water off a bridge over a creek. Crews were able to easily drop our suction tubes and draft out of the creek.

After that, we went and worked on drafting out of a pond with the portable pump. We hooked up our portable deck gun and our Blitzfire Nozzle to cycle the water and to who how much water can be moved by these pumps.

Good teamwork and communication is essential during these trainings. If this or anything else you see us working on is something that interests you, stop by on a Tuesday night to speak with us about joining and serving your community!

On our last work night, members were tasked to setup apparatus along with gathering required items from the apparatus for a handful of different scenarios ranging from water supply, to different motor vehicle collision incidents.

This keeps our members familiar with where our equipment is located on each apparatus and what may or may not be needed on incidents. We also discussed working together quickly and efficiently for the scenarios.

Excellent Job Done !!
