💡 Innovator Highlight: Taryn Lumley
🏢 Established in Stanley in 2003, the Sibyl Center is a venue for both local and national talent. When Taryn Lumley joined the Sibyl Center's committee in 2013, he noticed the potential it held. While the Sibyl Center could seat an audience of 210, shows at the time brought in 20 to 40 people. In 2020, Taryn seized the opportunity to rebrand the Sibyl Center after becoming its president. Through our Horizon Grant and Community Grant, the center received improvements including roof and wall repairs and sound and lighting refurbishments.
🎵 As an experienced musician, Taryn has an eye (and ears) for quality. Each year, he seeks to round up talent for bigger audiences, which provides economic growth to Stanley's businesses and hotels. These innovations are done in honor of the Sibyl Center's "godfather," Don Hoirup, who prevented the teardown of the building in 2002 in favor of transforming it into the beloved venue it is today.

Through Trey’s AmeriCorps service, he has helped strengthen our marketing presence and bring forward the stories that reflect the heart of the communities we serve. Now, as an AmeriCorps State Leader, he also mentors other AmeriCorps Members who are making an impact across the state. In the post shared below, Trey discusses the importance of youth volunteer work and service to their communities.

⭐ In an effort to learn more about building youth capacity within non-profits, SBPC AmeriCorps State Leader Trey Burk and other North Dakota representatives attended America's Service Commissions National Service Training event in Dallas, Texas last week.
💡 These sessions included tools and resources for engaging youth in volunteer opportunities to help strengthen their communities.
"One of the best things you can do as a young person is to start volunteer work early. Not only will it build up your community, but it will also develop your social skills and work ethic and prepare you for the future." -Trey Burk

🎆 A Plus Fireworks is having a blast selling fireworks across multiple locations in Mountrail County. Kier Jackson started the business so her kids could learn how to run one and use their experiences as a foundation for their adult education and future studies. 📚
"We are the only local fireworks company that is run by kids to benefit kids. It sure feels like the Stanley community recognizes this unique ownership model and their support is tremendous!" -Kier Jackson
🏢 Settling her business on a permanent location in Stanley, Kier needed a solid surface parking lot to comply with Stanley's regulations. With assistance from our Horizon Grant, Kier was able to complete the project, helping her keep lighting up the Stanley sky and her kids’ lives.
