♻️ Lithium-ion batteries don’t belong in household trash or regular recycling bins.

They can start fires during collection and processing, putting workers and emergency responders at risk.

Use a designated battery recycling location. Visit www.call2recycle.org to search for options, and confirm what the location accepts before bringing batteries in.

For a damaged or swollen battery, contact the facility first for handling instructions.

Hellsgate Fire Department thanks you for helping protect our community.

E21 assisted the Town of Payson Fire Department last night with a residential fire 🔥

Just another example of public safety partners working together to keep the Rim Country safer! 🤝

Payson Fire along with Hellsgate Fire Department and Payson Police Department were dispatched at 6:03 pm to a reported house fire. Units arrived and found a fire in the attic. Due to the size of the house and the amount of resources needed, a second alarm was called. An aggressive fire attack brought quick fire control. The second alarm was canceled. There were no injuries and the cause is under investigation. Payson Fire would like to thank all of our partners for their assistance.

🛠️ Battery safety belongs in the garage and workshop, too.

NFPA recommends charging larger devices—including e-bikes, scooters, and power tools—outdoors when possible. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions and choose a dry location away from direct sunlight and combustible materials.

Keep charging equipment clear of doors and escape routes.

Before plugging in this weekend, check your charging area. Could everyone still get out safely?

A reminder from Hellsgate Fire Department.

⚠️ A swollen or unusually hot battery needs your attention.

Stop using a device if you notice excessive heat, swelling, discoloration, leaking, an unusual smell, or strange noises.

If a battery is smoking or burning, get everyone away from the danger and call 911 from a safe location. Do not put yourself at risk trying to move the device.

Hellsgate Fire Department reminds you: Take battery warning signs seriously.

Share this reminder with someone who uses rechargeable devices.

📱 Where does your phone charge?

Beds, couches, blankets, and pillows can trap heat around charging devices.

Choose a firm, level surface with space for airflow, and disconnect your device once its battery is full.

Hellsgate Fire Department encourages parents to check children’s charging habits, too. A tablet tucked under a pillow can create a dangerous situation.

Tonight’s safety task: Set up a safer charging spot for everyone in your home.

🔌 Just because a charger fits doesn’t mean it’s safe for your device.

Hellsgate Fire Department reminds you to use the charger supplied with your device or a replacement approved by its manufacturer. An incompatible charger can damage the battery and increase fire risk.

When buying rechargeable devices, look for certification from a nationally recognized testing laboratory, such as UL, ETL, or CSA.

Today’s safety check: Are your family’s chargers approved for the devices they’re charging?

🚒 It’s Fire Prevention Week!

Hellsgate Fire Department is joining NFPA to promote this year’s theme: “Charge into Fire Safety: Safe Charging Is a Superpower.”

From phones and tablets to cordless tools and e-bikes, rechargeable batteries are part of everyday life. Damaged batteries and improper charging can create a fire hazard.

This week, we’ll share simple ways to protect your home and family. Start today: check the charging spots around your house.
