π¨NOTICE TO PUBLIC - SCAM PHONE CALLS π¨
Two new phone scams are impacting residents in our community:
SCAM #1: MISSED JURY DUTY
This scam involves a phone call from an individual claiming to be a courthouse or Sheriff's Office employee. Residents are advised that they missed jury duty, and are now facing legal repercussions. The caller directs the resident to purchase gift cards or send money electronically to pay their fines and avoid legal trouble. THIS IS A SCAM.
SCAM #2: ARREST WARRANT
Residents are being contacted by an individual impersonating a Sheriff's Office employee. Residents are advised that there is a warrant for their arrest, which can be cleared up by sending money electronically. THIS IS A SCAM.
Please note that our office will not contact you to request payment by fund transfer, wire, or gift cards. If you receive a suspicious phone call claiming to be from the Sheriff's Office, please feel free to verify authenticy by contacting the Sheriff's Office directly at 906-863-4441, and ask to speak with a Deputy.
