🚒 A NEW ADDITION TO SUMITON FIRE & RESCUE! 🚒

We are proud to officially introduce our new fire engine, built by Spencer Manufacturing, Inc. This truck is a major investment in the future of Sumiton Fire & Rescue and, most importantly, in the safety of the citizens we serve.

A purchase like this doesn’t happen without the support of our community. We want to sincerely thank Mayor Ellis, the Sumiton City Council, and the citizens of Sumiton for making this possible and for continuing to support your fire department.

Over the next several weeks, this engine will be getting outfitted with the equipment and tools needed to put it in service. Our members will also be spending a lot of time training on the new apparatus and becoming familiar with every system, compartment, and piece of equipment.

There’s still work to do before this truck is ready to roll, but we’re excited about what it brings to our department and our community.

Thank you, Sumiton, for investing in your fire department. We’re proud to serve you. 🇺🇸🚒

Congratulations Kyle! Great asset to the City of Sumiton as well as the City of Vestavia!

The Vestavia Hills Fire Department would like to introduce another one of our newest members to the family, Kyle Chapman!

Kyle comes to the Vestavia Hills Fire Department with valuable experience outside of the fire service. After graduating from Dora High School, he attended Wallace State, where he earned multiple certifications and an Associate’s Degree in Diesel Technology. Kyle then spent four years with Alabama Power as a Diesel Technician.

Chapman is also a member of Sumiton Fire and Rescue. He recently completed his NREMT-Basic certification at Bevill State and will begin Recruit School next month at the Alabama Fire College’s Over the Mountain Training Center.

Kyle is assigned to B-Shift at Station 4, proudly serving our 🗽 Liberty Park Community.

WELCOME ABOARD, KYLE!!

Continuing on our previous post about our department receiving Critical Care licensure, we have added an infographic to this post to help better educate the public on the care provided at this scope of practice.

We also want our surrounding communities to know that, just like our blood product program, we will not be providing this level of care only within our jurisdiction. We are proud to provide this Critical Care service to our neighboring departments and surrounding communities when a patient is in need.

We plan to go live with Critical Care services by mid-August, as soon as all medications and equipment are placed in service.

Big News from Sumiton Fire and Rescue Service

Today, we were proud to present to the Sumiton City Council that Sumiton Fire and Rescue Service has been officially licensed as an ALS Critical Care agency by the Alabama Department of Public Health - Office of EMS.

This is a huge milestone our department has been working toward for the past several years and makes Sumiton Fire and Rescue the first and currently only non-transport Critical Care EMS agency in the State of Alabama.

This level of licensure allows our SFRS Paramedics licensed to the Critical Care level to provide care up to their full scope of practice, including administering additional life-saving medications and performing advanced procedures such as Rapid Sequence Intubation (RSI), Surgical Cricothyrotomies, and Finger Thoracostomies.

We would like to thank the citizens of the City of Sumiton, our City Council members, our Mayor, and most especially our former and current Medical Directors, Dr. Jeffrey Kerby and Dr. Julie Brown.

Training Day at Sumiton Fire & Rescue

Our crew spent the day working on high-angle rope rescue, with a focus on pick-off rescues—a technique used to safely reach, secure, and bring down someone who is suspended or unable to rescue themselves.

These aren’t skills we use every day, but when they’re needed, they have to be second nature. That’s why we train. Every evolution helps us build confidence in our equipment, trust in each other, and the ability to perform when someone’s life depends on it.

A big thank you to the Alabama Fire College for allowing us to use the high-angle rescue training prop. We appreciate the opportunity and their continued support of firefighter training across our state.

We’re committed to continually improving so we’re ready when our community needs us most.

Train hard. Stay ready. Serve well.
