Halloween is just around the corner! 🕷️🍬 As you welcome trick-or-treaters to your door, remember that not everyone experiences Halloween the same way.

Some trick-or-treaters may:

🎃 Look older than 18
👻 Not be wearing a Halloween costume
🍬 Communicate differently
🗣️ Not say “trick or treat”
💬 Have difficulty with social cues or knowing how to ask for candy
🦸‍♀️🦸 Have a disability that may not be immediately visible

Please choose kindness and inclusion this Halloween. 💙

If someone comes to your door, consider giving them a treat—even if they don't say the expected words, aren't wearing a costume, or seem older than you might expect.

October is a time to increase understanding about Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and recognize the different ways ADHD can affect people of all ages.

ADHD is a neurodevelopmental disorder that can involve differences with attention, impulse control, activity level, and executive functioning. ADHD looks different from person to person, and having ADHD does not mean someone lacks intelligence, motivation, or potential.

🌟 This month, let's focus on understanding—not assumptions.
💙 Learn about ADHD and how it can affect daily life.
🧠 Recognize that everyone experiences ADHD differently.
🤝 Practice patience and understanding.
📚 Support strategies that help individuals learn and succeed.
💼 Encourage inclusive education and employment opportunities.
🗣️ Listen to people with ADHD and respect their experiences.

That’s why Bloodborne Pathogens training is an important part of DSP preparation! 🛡️

Not all disabilities are visible. 💙

This Invisible Disabilities Week, Advanced Independence is helping raise awareness about the many disabilities and health conditions that may not be immediately noticeable to others.

An invisible disability is a physical, mental, or neurological condition that may not be apparent from the outside but can still affect a person’s daily activities, communication, movement, senses, learning, or participation in the community. Invisible Disabilities® Association

Some examples can include:
🧠 Autism and other neurological conditions
⚡ Epilepsy
🧩 ADHD
💜 Mental health disabilities
🦋 Multiple sclerosis (MS)
💚 Lupus and other autoimmune conditions
🧠 Traumatic brain injury
💙 Chronic pain and certain chronic health conditions
👂 Hearing loss that may not be immediately apparent

These are just examples, and every person's experience is different. The CDC notes that some disabilities may be hidden or difficult to see, even when they significantly affect a person's daily life. CDC

💙 LET'S CHOOSE UNDERSTANDING OVER ASSUMPTIONS.

You can't always tell whether someone has a disability simply by looking at them.
This week, let's:

If you receive Social Security disability benefits and want to work, you may have options and supports available to help you take that next step!

🌟 Did you know about Social Security's Ticket to Work Program?

The Ticket to Work Program is a free and voluntary program for eligible people ages 18–64 who receive Social Security disability benefits and want to work. It can connect you with employment services and support as you prepare for, find, and maintain employment.

💼 Work Incentives may also help you:
✔️ Explore employment while maintaining certain benefits
✔️ Work toward greater financial independence
✔️ Access employment support services
✔️ Potentially maintain Medicare or Medicaid during your transition to work, depending on your individual situation

⚠️ Every person's benefits situation is different. Before starting work or increasing your hours, consider speaking with a benefits counselor who can explain how employment and earnings may affect YOUR benefits.
