The Love Grass Trail is COMPLETE! 🌿

We’re excited to officially welcome the new Love Grass Trail to the community! We know many residents had questions about how the trail was designed to work with the area’s natural drainage, so we wanted to share a little more about the project.

The trail was specifically designed with flooding and natural drainage in mind. Instead of creating a barrier for stormwater, the trail allows water to flow beneath it.

💧 How does it work?
• 6-inch concrete curbs feature 2-inch weep holes to allow water to move through the drainage system.
• Filter fabric and drainage gravel create a permeable layer beneath the trail.
• A granite surface provides a durable, natural-looking walking path.

Essentially, the trail acts as a “bridge for water,” allowing rainfall to continue along its natural drainage path. This helps reduce the potential for flooding, erosion, and disruption to the surrounding landscape.

We hope you enjoy this new addition to Sunset Valley! Get out, explore the trail, and enjoy the outdoors. 🌱🚶‍♀️🚶‍♂️

Join us tomorrow, August 11, at 9:00 a.m. at City Hall for a hands-on native seed harvesting event.
Ecologist David Mahler will teach participants how to identify and properly harvest native seeds that can be used in our local restoration efforts. After a brief introduction, we’ll visit several sites throughout Sunset Valley to collect seed.
