The beginning of 2014 this beautiful person walked into my life when SOS decided to open a "lab" to provide educational services in the community. Alissia was newly living in TC with her husband Eric and their 3 small children. She was a teacher that wanted do something such as tutoring while she patiently waited for a position at NMC. She did a google search, emailed me, and the rest is history. The depth of her positive impact on myself, my daughter and the building of SOS with her calm gentle way of supporting my ideas for growth, there are no words...she built my second website, taught my daughter how to build our third, she did small writing groups, SAT prep, helped me with marketing, volunteered for Cherry Festival Special Kids Day and Safe Harbor, painted the famous poker (tutoring table), painted walls, donated MANY books, etc. I could go on and on about all the little ways she helped build the foundation before I could adequately pay her for all of her expertise. But what I will be forever grateful for is her pure, honest, kind friendship....Our walks and talks, yearly really nice restaurant dinner dates, bike rides, and family dinners. She was the most genuine, present, intentional person I've ever known (for real). She didn't care about what kind of house you lived in, what car you drove, if you wore make-up or not....she just cared about YOU and you always knew that. If she was spending time with you, she wasn't distracted by her phone, facebook or anything else. It's like she spent her short time on earth just sprinkling her specialness in such a quiet way, always making a steady impact on every person she met, whether it was a short period of time or for many years. To her parents, siblings, husband and children You are all loved...thank you for sharing her with SOS, me and Carlee and the rest of the community. Thank you Alissia for letting me be "your first TC friend" you will be deeply missed, but gosh did you ever leave a lasting impact on this world! ❤️

We chose to support Generations Ahead because young parents getting their high school diploma is important.

Right now, more than 75 young parents rely on Generations Ahead, and over a third of them will be heading back to school this fall. Unlike the average student, they're balancing classes, work, and raising a child. Fewer than 50% of teen parents graduate by age 22, but together, we can change that.

We've committed to raising $500 to support Generations Ahead's Back-to-School Campaign, and I'd love your help reaching my goal.

Every gift helps remove barriers like childcare, transportation, groceries, and other basic needs so young parents can stay focused on earning their diploma.

If you're unable to give, I'd be so grateful if you would simply share this post!

Please help our friends at Generations Ahead as they gear up for their Back-to-School Fundraiser to support young parents with earning their high school diploma!

That’s why I’m raising money for Generations Ahead, an organization that walks alongside young parents and their little ones in every facet of their lives. I am dedicated to supporting these teen parents as they start a new school year and I hope you join me!

Congratulations, class of 2026! Another 70+ students across the finish line with their high school diploma!!! We are so proud of each and every person who got it DONE! You just changed your life! It has been a privilege helping these young people over the years. Their independence and willingness to be themselves continue to inspire us every single day. A special thanks to our virtual high school partners: Traverse City High School and Diploma and Careers Institute for your invaluable partnerships that give SOS the ability to do what we love every year! We live in a special community with many educational options to choose from. We are constantly in awe of our collaborative effort and witnessing the positive impact it can have on a young person's life. Here's a "snapshot" of our celebration - Proof that every single young person can graduate from high school with perseverance, a steady support system, and lots of love to help them along the way! ❤️

Our friends at the Traverse Bay Children's Advocacy Center will be participating in the La Senorita Gives Back Fiesta on April 15! What a yummy way to show your support!

Have we mentioned how much we love the La Senorita Mexican Restaurant team? 💙 They consistently show up for TBCAC and the children and families in our community, and we are so grateful for their continued support!

They’re partnering with us again this year for the La Senorita Gives Back Fiesta on April 15!
🎉 20% of your bill will go directly toward supporting TBCAC services.

But don’t forget—you’ll need to show a token! Screenshot our story and save it to your phone, then show it to your server on April 15 (for dine-in or take-out) to make your meal count for even more.

Come hungry and leave knowing you’ve made an impact beyond just your appetite. 🤝

Thanks Venture North Funding & Development for highlighting women entrepreneurs and supporting us throughout our business ownership journey!

As Women's History Month draws to a close, we want to share a recent article highlighting some wisdom from just some of the amazing women entrepreneurs we are so fortunate to work with here in Northern Michigan.

They comprise nearly 70% of Venture North-supported businesses and - all of the months of the year - are essential to the small business communities and economic well-being of northwest Michigan communities.

Click the link below for real-world insights, inspiration, and links to each of these amazing entrepreneurs: https://www.venturenorthfunding.org/customer-stories-news/customer-stories-testimonials/womens-history-month-2026

We’re busy shoveling snow at SOS so we can get back to normal (or as normal as we get here). A big pile of snow won’t keep us from supporting students! 🤣
