A Heat Advisory is in effect this afternoon, with dangerous heat index values expected before thunderstorms and a cold front arrive later.

If you must be outdoors, take extra precautions:
• Drink plenty of water
• Take frequent breaks in air-conditioned spaces
• Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing
• Avoid strenuous outdoor activity during the hottest part of the day
• Never leave children or pets in vehicles

Know the warning signs:

Heat Exhaustion
• Heavy sweating
• Weakness or fatigue
• Dizziness
• Nausea or vomiting
• Headache
• Cool, pale, clammy skin

Heat Stroke (Medical Emergency – Call 911)
• High body temperature
• Confusion or altered mental state
• Hot, red, dry or damp skin
• Rapid pulse
• Loss of consciousness

Check on family members, neighbors, and others who may be vulnerable to extreme heat.

Afternoon heat index values are expected to peak in the 105 to 107 degree range across much of NE OK ahead of a front. Take the proper precautions if you are going to be outdoors for an extended time this afternoon.

Beginning today, Monday, June 8, lane closures will be in place on East 3rd Street between South Delaware Avenue and South Harvard Avenue as part of ongoing waterline and road rehabilitation work.

The project will take place in two phases, with each phase expected to last about 10 days. During the first phase, the westbound lane will be closed to traffic. Once work is completed in that lane, closures will shift to the eastbound lane until the work is finished.

Please slow down, use caution in the work zone, and follow posted traffic control signs. Thank you for your patience as we improve this corridor.
