Sophomores from Mooreville, Saltillo, and Shannon spent time this week exploring skilled trades with the crew from Big Ideas Mobile Learning Lab! The interactive virtual-reality stations exposed them to numerous career pathways.

We thank Toyota Wellspring Education Fund and regional sponsors for bringing this hands-on career exploration experience to approximately 45 schools and more than 3,500 students across our part of the state.

Students in Mrs. Enlow's art classes at Guntown Middle School have been building their drawing skills!
Students practiced using lightboxes to transfer their rough sketches onto final paper, learning how artists refine and prepare their work. They also practiced drawing from observation using real pumpkins, focusing on shapes, details, and proportions.

Mrs. Tracy Nock, Lee County School District Art Coordinator, visited Mrs. Karina Dunaway's Spanish class at Shannon High School for a timely art lesson!

The students learned about sugar skulls and their meaning in Hispanic culture as part of Día de los Mu***os (Day of the Dead). It is celebrated on November 2 to remember and honor loved ones who have passed away. 💀🎨

The students had fun creating their own beautiful sugar skull pictures and learning about this special tradition!

The Northeast Mississippi Youth Foundation is a student-led program empowering high school juniors and seniors to develop their leadership skills, fundraise, and award grants to nonprofits in their communities. In all, 73 board members represent 42 schools and 17 counties in northeast Mississippi.

The FORGE Your Path Career Expo in Tupelo introduced LCSD middle schoolers to possible careers in construction, welding, heavy equipment operation, and others.

The interactive event was filled with hands-on activities, skilled trade challenges, and industry professionals who do these types of jobs every day.

Thanks to all of the businesses that spent time with our students and others from the area!

Families, teachers, and community members had a great time Monday night at the Lee County Library.
Participants created glowing pumpkins and flying "whirlybirds." They also talked about the importance of daily school attendance and the impacts of the new statewide attendance law.

Students in Mrs. Brown’s art classes at Shannon Middle School have been getting in the Halloween spirit by creating Pop Art inspired 3D treats!
Each student chose a candy treat to replicate, closely studied the logo and style of the wrapper, then drew and added color to their own super sized version. They then stuffed them to give a 3D effect.
We think these treats look good enough to eat! Great job students! 🍭🍫🍬

Congratulations to seniors Raleigh Estes from Shannon High, and Abby Beall and Piper McHenry from Saltillo High. All three students have been named 2027 Coca-Cola Scholars Program Semifinalists!

Over 1,200 high school seniors nationwide were selected as Semifinalists from a pool of more than 113,000 submitted applications from across the country. This is based on their academic excellence, leadership, and service demonstrated in school and community activities. Raleigh, Abby, and Piper are three of 17 students in the state of Mississippi to be selected as Semifinalists.

Semifinalists now move to phase two of the application process. The Semifinalists are in the running for 150 college scholarships worth $20,000 each.
