Fans traveling west on US-82 to Starkville for the Alabama-Mississippi State game should be prepared for work zones along the route.

Motorists will encounter work zones on US-82 in Coker, Gordo and near the Mississippi state line, where the outside westbound lane will be closed for approximately two miles.

ALDOT is hosting an online public involvement meeting for a proposed bridge replacement project on SR-17 north of Sulligent in Lamar County.

Visitors can view project information, review maps and submit comments through Oct. 9.

The project proposes replacing a total of five bridges over the Buttahatchee River and its four reliefs with new bridges that meet current design standards. The new bridges will be constructed on the existing alignment. Construction will be phased to allow access to adjacent properties for as great a duration as is practical.

A detour will be used during construction using I-22 and US-278.

ALDOT has a proposed access management project along a segment of the US-82 corridor than spans Tuscaloosa and Bibb counties. The project is intended to improve safety, mobility and promote economic growth.

The first phase would construct improvements along US-82 for approximately four miles from west of Bradley Road to east of Duncanville Middle School Road.

The public involvement meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, October 6 from 5-7 p.m. at the Duncanville Volunteer Fire Department.

Drivers should be aware of an upcoming speed limit change on SR-257 in Curry, Walker County.

The speed limit will be reduced from 55 mph to 45 mph along approximately two miles of SR-257, from north of Lane Concrete to south of Professional Landscaping. The change was requested by the Walker County Commission and follows an in-depth speed study conducted by ALDOT.

New speed limit signs are expected to be installed next week.

ALDOT plans to begin a pavement improvement project on US-82 in Pickens County near the Mississippi state line on Monday, Sept. 14.

The work will take place from approximately milepost 1.5 to milepost 4 and will include rehabilitating the existing pavement and placing new asphalt.

The project will be completed in phases with all work to be completed by Oct. 2, weather permitting. ALDOT also plans to start a resurfacing project in the area in spring 2027.

ALDOT plans to resurface a portion of I-20/59 from near Exit 68 to the I-359 interchange in Tuscaloosa to improve mobility and safety.

The 2.53-mile nighttime project is expected to begin Tuesday, Sept. 8, and will continue for approximately three months, weather permitting.

Lane closures will not be allowed between 5 a.m. and 8 p.m. to reduce the impact on traffic. Additionally, lane closures will not be allowed on Saturdays when the University of Alabama has a home football game.
