On June 2, 2026, supervisors from the Union City Police Department Emergency Services Unit, under the leadership of Chief Walter Laurencio, participated in a specialized training exercise on the George Washington Bridge alongside members of the Port Authority Police Department and neighboring law enforcement agencies.

We are grateful to the Port Authority Police Department for hosting and coordinating this outstanding training event. Opportunities like these not only help strengthen critical skills and preparedness for complex emergencies, but also foster the strong partnerships and teamwork that are essential to keeping our communities safe.

This morning, Sgt. Jose A. Martinez and Det. Steve Molina 👮‍♂️👮‍♂️had a great time at the Autism Awareness Fair sponsored by Mayor Brian P. Stack and the Board of Education at the Jose Martí STEM Academy 🏫 .

Our officers had the opportunity to speak to parents about our Vulnerable Resident Registry Program  and explain how this program serves our officers to help people with autism in times of need.

They also had an opportunity to show off some of the equipment and vehicles 🚓 🏍️ 🚔 that our officers use on patrol.  Most importantly, they got to spend a beautiful morning ☀️ sharing a great time with our most extraordinary kids! 💙💛❤️

If you or someone you know would like more information about the Union City Police Department’s Vulnerable Resident Registry Program please log onto our department webpage at unioncitypd.org

Autism spectrum disorder affects individuals and families across every community, background, and profession. Its breadth and scope are significant, touching the lives of countless people in our society in different ways. Autism is not defined by one single experience, as each individual may communicate, interact, process sensory information, and respond to stressful situations differently.

As public servants, it is important that we recognize the wide range of needs, strengths, and challenges those autistic individuals may experience in everyday life.

By participating in Autism Acceptance Month, we show our support, understanding, and compassionate approach to policing within the community we serve.
