It's even worse in WV. In the primaries only 18% of eligible voters bothered to show up. If you want to find fault in our system and you didn't vote, you are part of the problem.
[This text added after reading some of the early comments.]
MtnMamas does not like name-calling. We want people to vote. We are non-partisan and who you vote for is not the point of this post. Many nasty comments have been & will be deleted.
Likewise, we have not taken a position on the electoral college & we certainly didn't mean to start a FB fight about THAT.
If you are not connected to WV, there is no reason to even BE on this page. We are simply trying to have more forward-thinking women in our Legislature. If you hate Dems there is no need to be on this page. We are not MAGA-friendly, but if a forward-thinking Republican female wanted to be a MtnMama, she could be. We almost had one, but she did not win her primary. Y'all are wearing us out. If you are not interested in who will be in the 2027 Legislature, this page isn't even relevant to you. That is ALL we are discussing - 50+ women seeking seats in our State Legislature.
FIRST ADDED TEXT:
This is unsourced, but given the controversy in the comments please note: We are not sure if "eligible" means registered voters in 2024 or citizens of voting age. The numbers in the meme add up to approximately 241.6 million "eligible" voters.
One comment says there 178 million registered voters & that the "math isn't mathing." A reply to that comment contends there are 236.14 million US citizens over 18 in the United States in 2024 & thus eligible to vote (but challenges the accuracy of the census).
Someone can fact-check the numbers with sources for 2024, but let's focus on the POINT of the post:
Millions of eligible voters are not registers and millions more registered voters choose not to vote.
Be a voter.
Encourage people to vote.
It does not take that much time. If you just vote party or who your preacher tells you to vote for, that is not ideal, but these are the people who decide how to spend your tax dollars, so you may as well weigh in on who you think will spend your money in a way that improves your life.
