The Trump administration is reportedly pressuring immigration judges to prioritize deportations while removing judges viewed as insufficiently supportive of its deportation agenda. Because immigration judges work within the Department of Justice, they can be fired and replaced with judges expected to carry out the administration’s mass deportation goals. On Friday alone, two immigration judges were reportedly targeted after dismissing cases involving international students who expressed support for Palestine. Trump is stacking immigration courts with judges who will do what he wants them to do. It’s just his latest attempt to impede upon immigrants’ due process rights.

As we reflect on this past Mother’s Day, we recognize the sacrifices immigrant mothers make and the harm caused when families are separated through immigration detention. Cases like Meenu Batra’s show how long-standing residents can still face detention despite legal documentation, leading to lasting trauma for children and families. Mothers deserve dignity, protection, and to remain with their children—no family should be torn apart. Immigrants’ List is working hard to fight for the rights and freedoms of all immigrants.

In the wake of Trump’s surge in immigration enforcement, cities across the nation are fighting back against the cruel, unconstitutional, and dehumanizing policies employed by ICE agents. Philadelphia is just the latest city to consider ordinances that limit the authority of federal immigration enforcement officers. Philadelphia is pushing forward with bold legislation—the “ICE Out” bill package—that aims to rein in ICE enforcement and protect immigrant communities. Backed by city leaders and dozens of organizations, the effort reflects growing support for immigrant justice and accountability.

Trump’s BIA is more concerned with DHS priorities rather than fair case handling enabling outcomes that bypass due process. By removing experienced judges and issuing 70 precedent-setting decisions in a single year, the administration has stacked the system with loyalists who are now rapidly approving a mass-deportation agenda. This calculated effort to bypass the independent judiciary and weaponize the Justice Department against our neighbors is unacceptable. We must demand a return to an independent immigration court system governed by fairness, not by political quotas.

The Trump administration has changed the way ICE operates. These rising arrests are not isolated cases—they reflect a broader enforcement shift that is reshaping entire communities and separating families at scale. Family unity is not a priority for ICE.
