With warmer weather and spring cleanup underway, many Alaskans are starting to think about burning debris or enjoying a campfire. πŸ”₯

If you are wondering whether your area is under a burn suspension, Alaska has an interactive map where you can search by address or scroll around the state to see current suspension areas. πŸ—Ί

Burn suspensions may be put in place during dry and windy weather, periods of high fire danger, or when firefighting resources are limited.

You can explore the burn suspension map here:

If you are burning debris, remember to keep your burn permit with you.
Campfires used for cooking or warming do not require a burn permit.

Please be mindful of campfires this Memorial Day weekend and burn responsibly to help keep Alaska’s public lands and communities safe. 🏘🌲

πŸ«ŽπŸš— Moose Safety Reminder for the Mat-Su Valley πŸš—πŸ«Ž

As we head further into spring, moose are still very active throughout the Mat-Su Valley and continue crossing roadways β€” most often unexpectedly, especially during early morning and evening hours.

Drivers are encouraged to:
β€’ Slow down and stay alert, especially in areas with heavy brush or low visibility
β€’ Use extra caution at dawn and dusk
β€’ Scan both sides of the roadway β€” if you see one moose, there may be more nearby
β€’ Always wear your seatbelt

This time of year also means mama moose are preparing to have calves. Cow moose can become extremely protective and aggressive if they feel threatened.

If you encounter a moose:
β€’ Keep a safe distance
β€’ Never approach calves
β€’ Keep pets leashed and under control
β€’ Give moose plenty of room to move away

A little extra awareness can help keep both our community and Alaska’s wildlife safe.
Stay safe out there, Mat-Su! πŸš’
