"December 7, 1941 — a date which will live in infamy."

Today marks the 80th anniversary of the day Pearl Harbor was attacked by the Japanese military in a surprise early Sunday morning bombardment that killed more than 2,400 service members and civilians, wounded about 1,000 people, and damaged or destroyed almost 20 ships and more than 300 aircraft in less than two hours.

Please remember the bravery and sacrifice of all those service members who were serving at Pearl Harbor on that fateful day.

Potter Funeral Service, Inc. - Westport & Newbedford, MA - Current Obituaries

It is with incredible sadness that I share the news that Eddy Moriarty has passed away. Westporters probably know Eddy from seeing him walk all around town collecting cans. I know that he frequented the Post Office on Adamsville Rd, Cumberland Farms, and Lees Market, and probably other places that I don't know of.

I got to know him when he would come by my office in the Annex. That is how I found out that he was a Coast Guard veteran and an avid painter. I wish I had the chance to see some of his paintings.

His life was not easy after his military service, but I know that many people looked out for him and I thank those people. It was my pleasure to be one of those people. His sister Mary Jane told me that she is grateful for everything that people did to help her brother.

One person I talked to said he was her guardian angel on earth.

I will miss our conversations and your smile and laugh.

Rest In Peace Eddy
