VA Warns of National Postcard Scam

The VA is warning that scammers had sent postcards to veterans claiming they are entitled to VA benefits or extra payments over the last year, but that these postcards were fraudulent and not affiliated with the VA.

The VA advises veterans not to hand over any personal information to those they don't completely trust, notably as millions of veterans will soon receive something through the mail from the VA. Between August 13 to September 11, the VA will mail official "Choose VA" postcards to around 3.8 million veterans who are not enrolled in VA health care.

The department said fraudulent postcards had appeared in multiple states over the past year, claiming to be linked to the VA.

This Friday, 7 Aug 2026, there will NOT be coffee & pastries served at the VFW.

There is a Purple Heart event @ 9 AM at Bicentennial Veterans Park in Fall River.

The bus will leave the VFW in Westport at 8:15am and should return by 11:00AM.

🎆 **Westport 4th of July Parade**
📅 Saturday, July 4, 2026
🕙 10:00 AM

Celebrate Independence Day at Westport's annual parade! The route begins in Central Village and ends at the old high school, featuring decorated floats, antique cars, tractors, community groups, and plenty of patriotic spirit.

⭐ This year, veterans are invited to serve as the Parade's Grand Marshals in recognition of their service and sacrifice.

Veterans interested in participating should contact Carol Freitas at the Westport Veterans Office at **508-636-1028** by **July 1**.

Participants should meet at the Little League fields next to the old high school by **8:30 AM**. Veterans may walk the first portion of the parade route (to Charlotte White Road) but must ride in vehicles for the remainder of the parade. Or you may ride in a vehicle the entire parade route. Limited seating will be available in several vehicles.

🍔 **6th Annual Veterans Appreciation Cookout**
📅 Sunday, September 13, 2026
🕚 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM
🍽 Lunch Served: 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM
📍 VFW Post 8502, 843 State Road

The Westport Veterans Service Office, VFW Post 8502, American Legion Post 145, and Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 207 invite all Westport veterans, members of these organizations, and their immediate family members to attend this annual celebration.

🇺🇸 Free admission for veterans and one guest.
💲 Additional guests are welcome for $5 per person (cash only).
🥤 Admission includes food and water or soda.

📌 Advance registration is required by September 4.

If you are a Westport resident and you are eligible for this annuity, call me at (508) 636-1028 on Monday after 11 so we can complete your application before the June 30 deadline.

The Veteran Annuity is a financial benefit provided to eligible veterans and certain family members residing in Massachusetts.
