So many reasons to celebrate! Congratulations to Graciela Ochoa Barragan, who was sworn in as a U.S. citizen on August 5. Not only is she a brand new citizen, she is also the proud mom of Luis Angel Ochoa, who served as my Constituent Services and Community Outreach Associate for two years, and who is now headed for his next adventure at University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School. Great news all around!

Happy to attend Westchester Community Health Center’s (WCHC) Greenburgh Health Fair during National Health Center Week! This was a great opportunity to learn about the vital services WCHC provides to the community – in addition to affordable, high-quality primary care, WCHC’s programs address chronic disease prevention, maternal health, behavioral health, and food insecurity. Many thanks to CEO Judith Watson for inviting me. I am pleased to have been able to provide $250,000 for expansion of the Lake Street location.

Joined Governor Kathy Hochul, Andrea Stewart-Cousins, colleagues, and leading Black clergy of Westchester to hear about the issues facing congregants. We discussed a number of issues, particularly the rising costs that threaten every aspect of their lives. I thank the Governor for convening this meeting and am grateful to the clergy for their leadership and sharing their thoughts.

Heartbroken by the passing of Mel Tanzman. Mel was a tireless advocate for justice, equity, and the rights of people with disabilities. His compassion, dedication, and deep commitment to his community touched countless lives and leaves a lasting legacy. I am deeply honored to have worked alongside him, fighting for our neighbors. My thoughts are with his family, loved ones, and all who knew him. May his memory be a blessing.
