Last night's Westchester County Board of Legislators Board Meeting was particularly poignant, as I had the opportunity to join my Democratic colleagues in passing the Visual Gun Warning Law. The new bill, the second of its kind in any municipality across the country, requires that firearm retailers display images showing the dangers associated with gun ownership. The enhanced warnings must also be given to anyone applying for a gun license in Westchester County.

As the bill's primary sponsor, it was my pleasure to share this moment with colleagues including co-sponsors Jewel Williams Johnson and Shanae Williams, as well as advocates such as Barry Graubart from Moms Demand Action - NY and Dobbs Ferry Democratic Committee Vice Chair Tracey Frisch, who first suggested the legislation to me two years prior after seeing a similar bill become law in New York City.

We also celebrated , and it was an honor to recognize resident and combat veteran Ben Ilany, whose heroic service to our country is rivaled only by his years-long fight to repeal the military's so-called "Don't ask, don't tell" policy. Ben's wonderful family, as well as Dobbs Mayor Christy and Mayor Tom Drake, were present as Ben received his proclamation.

It continues to be my genuine privilege to help make our communities safer and recognize others who work hard to give back.

And as always, contact my office with any questions or concerns.

Thank you Westchester Jewish Council, OCA WHV and AJC - American Jewish Committee for uniting cultures and communities at White Plains Public Library this week in recognition of the fact that May is both and .

As the Westchester County Board of Legislators' first -- though not only -- Asian American member and a Board member at the Holocaust and Human Rights Education Center, I was grateful to be in attendance and address those assembled. Events like these are a visceral reminder that unity will always triumph over divisiveness.

As Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month continues, I was pleased to be an honoree at The Power of Unity: Honoring Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage at the Ceremonial Courtroom in White Plains.

As Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month continues, I was humbled to be an honoree at The 9th Judicial District Equal Justice in the Courts Committee's "Power of Unity: Honoring Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage" event at the Ceremonial Courtroom in White Plains.

It was a particular pleasure to speak following fellow honoree, the Honorable Lillian Wan, Associate Justice for the Appellate Division, Second Department and to be introduced by the Honorable Walter Rivera.

The afternoon was filled with poignant reflection, laughter, song, dance, food and all the elements that bring all cultures together. And I said in my remarks that day, gatherings like these are merely the beginning of a commitment to making New York State a better place.

I want to thank the Westchester County Government Human Rights Commission and its Executive Director Tejash V. Sanchala for hosting a terrific event. I was privileged to address those in attendance and be an audience members myself as the Honorable Judge Denny Chin of the Second Circuit spoke about pivotal moments in American legal history that have shaped civil rights and citizenship today.

And an additional thanks goes to event co-sponsors OCA WHV, the Westchester County Bar Association, the Asian American Bar Association of New York (AABANY) and the South Asian Bar Association of New York, as well as the White Plains Public Library for providing a venue for the program.
