Lettuce Learn: while grocery store shelves deal with recalls, PS250 students in Brooklyn are growing their own kale, basil and baby lettuce: no soil, no supply chain, just water, light and a whole lot of curiosity.
Just before summer break, students harvested their latest crop from their hydroponic classroom, capping off months of hands-on learning through our Green Classrooms Program: a partnership with NY Sun Works that brings STEM to life through sustainable food production.
Teachers say the classrooms double as a calming, therapeutic space for students. As one PS250 teacher put it: "When they come in here, it's such a calm and serene place that it just makes them feel happy and good all around."
