Lettuce Learn: while grocery store shelves deal with recalls, PS250 students in Brooklyn are growing their own kale, basil and baby lettuce: no soil, no supply chain, just water, light and a whole lot of curiosity.

Just before summer break, students harvested their latest crop from their hydroponic classroom, capping off months of hands-on learning through our Green Classrooms Program: a partnership with NY Sun Works that brings STEM to life through sustainable food production.

Teachers say the classrooms double as a calming, therapeutic space for students. As one PS250 teacher put it: "When they come in here, it's such a calm and serene place that it just makes them feel happy and good all around."

From hydroponic harvests in Brooklyn to shoreline studies along the Long Island Sound, NYPA is helping the next generation dig into the issues shaping their planet - learn more on our blog:

And that’s a wrap on our 2026 Developmental Intern Program!

Every summer, this program brings in students from undergraduate, master’s and Ph.D. programs to explore meaningful work and see firsthand how their skills can help power New York.

This year, we were excited to welcome 34 interns from colleges and universities across the country. They dove into projects spanning electrical, mechanical and civil engineering, computer science, data analytics, finance, sustainability and more.

To our 2026 Developmental Interns: thank you for your curiosity, insight and impact this summer. We’re proud of what you accomplished and excited to see where you take your spark next.

Interested in joining us next summer? Keep an eye on our careers page at nypa.gov for future internship opportunities.

Pollinator month may be over, but at NYPA, the buzz never really stops. To wrap up our garden tour series, we're spotlighting Dr. Cari Ficken's Pollinator Tour, and celebrating some brand-new news: our pollinator garden at the New York Energy Zone officially opened on July 30, and it's ready for visitors!

Here's why we're so hyped about a garden: pollinators like the monarch butterfly are in trouble. Populations are declining, and there simply aren't enough native plants left to sustain them. That's where NYPA comes in. Our Sustainability team has turned 100,000 acres of NYPA-owned land into 100 acres (and counting!) of biodiverse meadows and pollinator gardens.

These gardens do a lot of heavy lifting. They're climate-resilient, help manage stormwater, cool down urban heat, and create vital habitat for bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds. They also mean cleaner air and water, more green space for communities, and a mental health boost for anyone who stops to enjoy them.

Want to see it for yourself? Come visit our newest pollinator garden at the New York Energy Zone, open to the public now! Environmental stewardship is more than a mission at NYPA. It's in the ground we stand on.

NYPA is powering up the fun at The Great New York State Fair in Syracuse, August 26 through September 7!

Head to the Center for Progress and check out our NYS Energy & Environment Experience: hands-on activities where you can explore how clean energy keeps New York running, straight from the team that helps make it happen. We've teamed up with NYS Canal Corporation, the New York State Department of Public Service, and New York State Energy Research and Development Authority to bring you a one-stop look at the people and programs powering the state.

Once you've gotten your energy fix, the rest of the Fair awaits: the famous butter sculpture, incredible sand sculptures, Midway rides and games, and all the fair food you can handle. But we hope you'll stop by and see us first, as we're in the first building right when you walk in the entrance gates!

Happy !

Today, we're celebrating the brilliant minds behind the blueprints: our incredible licensed Professional Engineers. honors the engineers who safeguard public health, safety, and infrastructure reliability every single day, and at NYPA, that means the men and women whose work shapes the safety, resilience, and well-being of our communities across New York.

From hydropower to high-voltage lines, our PEs are the ones solving the tough problems and designing the next generation of projects, all while keeping New York powered, productive, and moving toward a greener future.

One example: our PEs are hard at work creating digital twins of our generation and transmission assets, and now, the first-ever digital twin of the entire New York State grid. By leveraging sensor data across our assets, our engineers can model performance in real time, better understand asset health, and de-risk emerging technologies before they ever touch the physical grid. It's innovation you can test, refine, and trust: engineered by the people who know these systems best.

To every licensed Professional Engineer on our team: thank you for your expertise, your dedication, and the innovation you bring to the job every day. New York runs safer and stronger because of you.

ICYMI: We just closed out our Blenheim-Gilboa Visitor Center event season in style, with an Antique Auto Show that had something for everyone!

Classic cars gleaming in the sun, engines humming with decades of history... and parked right alongside them? The future. Our EVolve NY team and 10 EVs spanning old-school tech to the latest models, so folks could see just how far the drive has come: from carburetors to charge ports.

It was a beautiful day for it, and we loved seeing the crowds come out to celebrate both ends of automotive history in one place!

📍 A friendly reminder: the Blenheim-Gilboa Visitors Center and historic Lansing Manor are currently closed for renovations. But the fun isn't going anywhere! During the 2026 season, head over to Mine Kill State Park, where you can keep learning about our history and the power of electricity; plus join us for more free, family-friendly events all season long.

🐝 A buzz-worthy day in Utica! This week, we officially cut the ribbon on our brand-new Pollinator Garden at the New York Energy Zone, and what a blast it was.

We held a ribbon cutting, hosted garden tours, and spotted some pollinators on our garden scavenger hunt. Local makers and munchies joined the fun too - a huge thanks to the small businesses who came out to craft, sip, and snack with us. We also got hands-on with a live beekeeper demo and added our own paper bees to a community mural pledging to protect pollinators.

Thank you to everyone who came out, crafted, cheered, and pledged to help our pollinators thrive. This garden is just getting started. Here's to many more seasons of blooms!
