FROM DUKE ENERGY:
As of today (8/12), there are 111,000 customers in OH/KY without power. This includes about 92,000 customers in Ohio and over 19,000 customers in Kentucky. Duke Energy has already restored more than 141,000 customer outages in OH/KY, including more than 122,000 in Ohio and 19,000 in Kentucky during this storm.
Additional severe weather is expected today with the potential to cause new outages and hamper ongoing restoration efforts. Crews have restored power to thousands of customers, but fallen trees, broken poles and damaged equipment complicate restoration efforts. Lineworkers continue to assess damage and restore power as conditions allow. The company has also used self-healing technology to remotely power around the damage equipment where possible.
In areas where road conditions remain too hazardous for travel, Duke Energy deploys lineworkers, damage assessors and tree trimmers as soon as they can safely reach the damaged infrastructure. For safety, crews cannot perform elevated work in bucket trucks when winds reach 30 mph or higher, which may slow restoration in some areas.
Duke Energy restores power using a process designed to return service to the greatest number of customers as quickly and safely as possible while prioritizing facilities that support public health and safety. Currently, restoration times are being field generated. As damage assessments continue, Duke Energy will communicate updates – including estimated times of restoration – to customers through the company’s Outage Alerts and its Outage Map. Customers can also stay updated via the Duke Energy smartphone app available via Apple Store or Google Play.
Below this email are additional resources for ‘Reporting an Outage’ and important reminders on ‘Storm Safety.’ First responders can continue reporting Gas and Electric emergencies through the Duke Energy Trouble lines. However, if you require additional visibility on a particular community emergency situation, please reach out to me directly.

Storm safety reminders
We encourage customers to prepare for a potential outage during severe weather. Here are important safety reminders:
• Ensure mobile phones remain charged and you have an adequate supply of flashlights, batteries, bottled water, nonperishable foods and medicines.
• If you use a generator, follow the manufacturer’s instructions to ensure safe and proper operation. Operate your generator outside, and never in a building or garage.
• Stay away from power lines that have fallen or are sagging. Consider all lines energized, as well as trees or limbs in contact with lines. Report any downed power lines to Duke Energy or local emergency services.
• Make alternate shelter arrangements, as needed, if you are significantly affected by a loss of power – especially families who have special medical needs or elderly members.
• If a power line falls across a car that you are in, stay in the car. If you MUST get out of the car due to a fire or other immediate life-threatening situation, jump clear of the car and land on both feet. Be sure that no part of your body is touching the car when your feet touch the ground.
