Reminder: my constituent coffee meeting will be tomorrow at the Brandywine Library at 5:30 p.m.

Hope to see you there!

I hope you can join me at my upcoming constituent coffee meeting on Tuesday, August 11 at the Brandywine Library. Please note that the time has been changed to 5:30 in the evening to make it easier for more people to attend after work.

We'll be joined by the Delaware State Police, who can speak on topics including FLOCK cameras, summer safety tips, and recent text scam messages.

And as always, we'll also have plenty of time to answer questions and talk about community and legislative issues.

Hope to see you there!

The details of this case are absolutely heartbreaking. My heart goes out to the women who were exploited, and I sincerely hope they are able to find safety, healing, and justice after everything they have been through.

Unfortunately, as this article points out, illicit massage parlors continue to be a persistent and growing problem. Human trafficking doesn't always look the way people expect, and that's why we have to keep looking for ways to identify illegal operations and protect vulnerable women before more lives are impacted.

That's why I sponsored HB 136, which requires any massage and bodywork establishment operating without a valid license or with a license that has been suspended, revoked, or expired to prominently display a notice at its entrance informing the public of its licensing status. Under this legislation, the unlawful removal of the placard is a class A misdemeanor, punishable by up to 1 year in jail and up to a $2300 fine.

Thank you to the New Castle County Police Department's Human Trafficking Investigations Team for their work on this important issue and for giving these women an opportunity to escape exploitation and begin to rebuild their lives.

The women are brought to the U.S. with the promise of jobs but end up trapped in seedy salons, forced to perform sexual acts and are unable to leave.

There has been a spike in E-ZPass text message scams designed to trick receivers into paying a fake toll debt.

E-ZPass will NEVER request payment via text message. Do not click on any links or share any personal information.

If you have questions about your E-ZPass account, you can get help by visiting the official website https://ezpassde.com/, calling the EZ Pass Call Center at 888-397-2773, or by visiting one of their four service center locations.

Anyone who receives a suspicious text can file a complaint to the Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) at ic3.gov. When filing, please include the phone number from where the text originated and the website listed within the text. It's advised that receivers delete the scam text immediately after reporting.

The Brandywine Nutrition Department is offering free summer meals for all children ages 18 and younger. No registration is required—just stop by a participating location and enjoy. Summer meals are a great way to stay nourished, connect with friends, and enjoy the community. Meals must be consumed on-site unless the Delaware Department of Education announces an extreme heat or air quality alert.

We're getting a bit of a break from the heat this week, but summer is far from over!

That’s why I’m sharing this great tool from New Castle County Emergency Management and Citizen Corps, which makes it easy to find a cooling center near you where you can get out of the extreme heat and stay safe. The Interactive Cooling Center Map lists all cooling centers in the state and can help you find the nearest one.

Operation Troopers Have Your BACKpack is back!

This annual program, run by the Delaware State Police Community Engagement Unit, works with local communities and organizations to collect and donate school supplies for children in need.

From August 3 to August 21, community members who wish to help can drop off donations at any Delaware State Police Troop or Delaware State Police Federal Credit Union location. Each location will have a box for supplies to be dropped off.

Donations will be distributed to students in need at the beginning of the school year.
