5TH GRADE SCIENCE SHOWCASE
❤️ Mrs. Wilson’s 5th Grade Class 🤍
Our 5th grade scientists put chemical reactions into action! Using Alka-Seltzer, water, and canisters, students worked together to predict, test, observe, measure, and reflect.
Students compared tablet sizes, timed how long it took the canisters to pop, and discussed why some reactions happened faster. They used what they heard, saw, and observed as evidence that a chemical reaction was occurring.
The Science: As the Alka-Seltzer reacted with water, carbon dioxide (CO₂) gas was produced. Students modeled how particles looked in the liquid and gas and connected those changes to the pressure building inside the canister.
One interesting discovery, even when reaction times were similar, some groups observed that the ½ tablet popped higher, leading to even more questions and discussion!
This lesson was about much more than the POP. It was hands-on learning, teamwork, prediction, observation, reflection, and using evidence to explain WHY.
