On May 21, 1976, Mother Teresa received an honorary degree, Doctor of Ministry, from the College at the commencement of the first co-ed graduating class in Holy Cross history. In a letter to Father John E. Brooks, S.J., following the ceremony, she remarked, "They say where nothingness and greatness come together both complete each other and make something beautiful for God. This is exactly what I feel about you and me—as it is all for Jesus. I have nothing more to say—but that all be for the greater glory of God and his poor.”

Mother Teresa was awarded the 1979 Nobel Peace Prize and was canonized a saint in the Roman Catholic Church in 2016.

On May 14, 1952, legendary baseball coach Jack Barry celebrated his 500th winning game. John J. “Jack” Barry attended Holy Cross from 1905-1908, serving as captain of the Crusader baseball team. He went on to play eight years of professional baseball with the Boston Red Sox and Philadelphia Athletics before returning to Holy Cross in 1921 as the full-time baseball coach. He continued for an unprecedented 39 seasons, and stands as the all- time winningest coach in Holy Cross Athletics history. His teams made six appearances in the NCAA College World Series. At their first appearance in 1952, they won the Championship.

Coach Barry was inducted into the College Baseball Hall of Fame in 2007 and the American Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 1966. He died in 1961 after more than 40 years of service to the College.

On May 6th, students gathered with members of the Holy Cross Physicians Association to celebrate the HCPA Alumni Authors exhibit on display in the O'Callahan Science Library. The event showcased books, articles, and research publications authored by Holy Cross alumni who are physicians. Two authors, Joseph Sidari '87 and Roger Landry '68, spoke about their works. The reception also provided an opportunity for students to connect directly with physician alumni and learn more about their careers.

This event was co-sponsored by Alumni Relations, Center for Career Development, Health Professions Advising, and the Holy Cross Libraries (Science Library and Archives and Distinctive Collections).
