The Worthington Noon Lions Club invites the community to help tackle food insecurity by supporting the annual “Battle of Hard Road” Community Food Drive benefiting the Worthington Resource Pantry. The drive will culminate during the Worthington Kilbourne High School Homecoming football game against Dublin Scioto High School on Friday, September 18, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. at Worthington Kilbourne High School.
The annual food drive is a friendly competition between Worthington Kilbourne High School and Dublin Scioto High School held in conjunction with the “Battle of Hard Road” football game. Each school works to collect the most food and monetary donations for its respective community food pantry. The event combines school spirit with an important mission—helping address hunger and food insecurity in our communities.
Throughout the week of September 14, Worthington Kilbourne students and the Worthington Noon Lions Club will collect food and monetary donations. Community members may drop off canned and nonperishable food items at Worthington Kilbourne High School during the week prior to the game to the attention of teacher Lauren Glaros. Donations will also be accepted at the football game on September 18.
According to Nick Linkenhoker, Executive Director of the Worthington Resource Pantry, items currently needed include peanut butter, canned fruit, tuna and other nonperishable foods. Community members who prefer to make a monetary contribution may also donate online through the Worthington Resource Pantry.
On game night, both schools will have collection tables outside their respective ticket booths. Be on the lookout for Worthington students and Worthington Noon Lions Club members carrying their silver donation buckets as they work to collect as many contributions as possible!
The friendly competition will conclude after halftime, with the winning school scheduled to be announced between the third and fourth quarters of the Homecoming game. Regardless of which school wins the competition, the true winners will be the individuals and families who receive much-needed assistance from their local food pantries.
Hunger affects children, senior citizens and families in communities everywhere, making local efforts such as the Battle of Hard Road Food Drive especially important. The Worthington Noon Lions Club is proud to partner with students, schools and community members in addressing this critical need and putting the Lions motto, “We Serve,” into action.
