The Umsobomvu Local Municipality to host the Tri-Provincial Tourism Month 2026 Media Launch, bringing together the Eastern Cape, Free State and Northern Cape provinces to showcase the incredible tourism experiences, destinations and opportunities that make these provinces truly unforgettable. 🇿🇦

Under the theme “Growing South Africa’s Tourism Sector in the Digital Era,” this collaborative launch will set the tone for a month of celebrating the people, places, experiences and stories that continue to position our provinces as must-visit destinations.

📍SUCCESSFUL HANDOVER OF HOUSES AND TITLE DEEDS IN THE UMSOBOMVU MUNICIPALITY BY MECs MOTLHAPING AND KIBI.

[27 August] MEC Lebogang Motlhaping, responsible for Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs (CoGHSTA) in the Northern Cape, accompanied by the MEC responsible for Women, Children and Persons with Disabilities, Ms Meriam Kibi, and the Mayor of the Umsobomvu Local Municipality, Councillor Mzwandile Toto and local councillors and leaders, officially marked the 100% completion of the Norvalspont 50 Housing Project, by handing over the keys to the final ten housing units and conferring title deeds to all beneficiaries in the Umsobomvu Local Municipality, situated in the Pixley ka Seme District Municipality.

🏡The milestone event brought full closure to the 50-unit housing development, signaling the government's continued momentum under the flagship provincial One-Billion-Rand Housing Project aimed at addressing the housing backlog, restoring human dignity and tackling spatial inequality across the Northern Cape.

📜The beneficiaries also received title deeds that immediately confirmed the legal ownership of their houses as the Department continues to implement the Title Deeds Restoration Programme.

🌳MECs Motlhaping and Kibi, along with the local leaders, also planted trees at the houses of beneficiaries as part of the greening and beautifying of the project sites.

🎤"Today we are not merely delivering bricks, mortar, and keys; we are conferring full asset ownership and dignity to our people. By handing over these final ten houses alongside title deeds for all 50 units, we are giving families a permanent generational asset that no one can ever take away from them," said MEC Motlhaping.

MEC Kibi urged the new homeowners to safeguard their properties, maintain their surroundings, and protect their title deeds as valuable family assets.

Mayor Toto expressed his gratitude that the Norvalspont 50 Housing Project, is now fully completed and appreciated the partnership between the Provincial Government and the Umsobomvu Municipality that ensured that the qualifying residents from the local municipality also benefited from this massive housing project of the Province.

HANDING OVER OF HOUSES AND TITLE DEEDS: NORVALSPONT

The Mayor of Umsobomvu Local Municipality, Councillor Mzwandile Toto will welcome MEC Lebogang Motlhaping, responsible for Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs (COGHSTA), in the Northern Cape, for handing over of the completed houses as well as title deeds to the beneficiaries of the Norvalspont 50 Housing Project, in Norvalspont, on Thursday, 27 August 2026.

MEC Motlhaping and entourage will also plant trees at the housing project site as part of the greening and beautification of the project site.

[KUYASA DETECTIVE ENSURES JUSTICE IS SERVED FOR ATTEMPTED MURDER VICTIM]

The Pixley Ka Seme District Management welcomed a conviction secured through the diligent investigative work of Detective Sergeant Royden Gorrah of Kuyasa SAPS.

Detective Gorrah ensured that justice was served for a 52-year-old man who was the victim of an attempted murder.

The victim reported the matter at Kuyasa Police Station in January this year, after he sustained a life-threatening stab wound.

The accused, 47-year-old Vuyani Rasmeni from Kuyasa, was convicted and sentenced to 15 years’ direct imprisonment by the Colesberg Regional Court on Monday, 24 August 2026.

The court heard that on Friday, 9 January 2026, at approximately 22:00, the accused and the victim were at a shebeen in Kuyasa, where they were socialising.

Later that evening, the victim went to a nearby tuck shop and, when he returned to the shebeen, he encountered the accused, who allegedly took out a knife and stabbed him once in the chest before fleeing the scene.

The victim was rushed to hospital, where he received medical treatment for the life-threatening injury. He was discharged from hospital on Friday, 16 January 2026.

The case was assigned to Detective Sergeant Gorrah, who conducted a thorough investigation that led to the arrest of the accused.

Rasmeni appeared in court on several occasions and was remanded in custody until his conviction and .

In addition to the 15-year prison sentence, the court declared Rasmeni unfit to possess a firearm.

The District Commissioner of Pixley ka Seme District, Major General Nomana Mtukushe, welcomed the sentence and commended Detective Sergeant Gorrah for his investigative work, which contributed to securing justice for the victim.
