📍 [ANTI-CORRUPTION AWARENESS AND FINANCIAL MISCONDUCT WORKSHOP]

DE AAR - Today, the Department of COGHSTA, in collaboration with HAWKS, Special Investigating Unity, Treasury, and Office of the Premier, held the first day of two-day workshop (26-27 May 2026) at PKSDM Council Chambers.

The goal of this workshop is to ensure clean governance and strengthen municipal capabilities focusing on Anti-Corruption awareness and financial misconduct. The aim is to foster ethical leadership, accountability, and prevention of corruption in municipalities.

Focus Areas:

* Implementing the revised Local Government Anti-Corruption Strategy (LGACS)

* Addressing financial misconduct, supply chain management gaps, and unauthorized expenditure

* Fraud prevention and reporting mechanisms in collaboration with HAWKS and SIU

Target audience: Local Municipalities (MM’s, CFO’s, Supply Chain Management and Councillors responsible for Financial Committees.

MAYOR TOTO TO PRESENT HIS FINAL BUDGET SPEECH FOR THE 5TH MUNICIPAL COUNCIL

The Mayor of Umsobomvu Local Municipality, Honorable Cllr. Mzwandile Toto, will on Friday, 29 May 2026, deliver and table his final Budget Speech of the 5th Municipal Council. The Mayor served the Municipality for two terms, for the 4th and 5th Municipal Council

The budget presentation will outline the Municipality’s financial plans, service delivery priorities and developmental commitments for the 2026/2027 financial year. The sitting forms part of the Municipality’s constitutional obligation to adopt an Integrated Development Plan (IDP) and Budget that responds to the needs and aspirations of residents.

MEC VASS HANDS OVER COMPLETED HOUSES AND TITLE DEEDS IN COLESBERG.

[20 May 2026] MEC Bentley Vass, responsible for Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs (COGHSTA) in the Northern Cape, officially. handed over the final eight (8) completed houses at the Ouboks 50 Housing Project in Colesberg today.

MEC Vass was joined by the Executive Mayor of the Pixley ka Seme District Municipality, Cllr Itumeleng Rhoode, the Speaker of the Umsobomvu Local Municipality, Cllr Nandipha Staffa, and local Ward Councillors.

The successful handover of the eight houses today, marks the 100% completion of all 50 houses in the Ouboks 50 Housing Project, reducing housing challenges in the Umsobomvu Local Municipality.

These homes are fully subsidized by the government, providing a safe haven for vulnerable members of our community.

Following the house handovers, MEC Vass and local leadership moved to the Kuyasa Community Hall to present Title Deeds to beneficiaries, granting them full legal property ownership.

Engaging the houses beneficiaries MEC Vass said “Take care of these invaluable assets. These are 100% government-subsidized houses meant to provide security for you and your family. Please do not sell them—this is wealth and property that must be passed down to future generations.”

MEC Vass congratulated all the new homeowners in Colesberg today as they celebrate legal ownership and a place to truly call home.
